Superb hotel

Wow! We loved this hotel. We have just returned from a family ski trip to Briancon and stayed at this hotel for a week.
The hotel is about 350m from the main Prorel gondola in Briancon leading to the large Serre Chevalier ski area.
Our rooms were no 7 and no 1 on the first floor ( opposite each other). The rooms are beautiful and so full of character. No 7 has a superking sized bed ( comfiest hotel bed I've slept in) and also a single. The rooms were very large with lots of lovely old wood, faux fur throws and cushions. They also had the advantage of large outdoor terraces with a view of the mountains.
Breakfast was excellent- lots of pastries/ breads/ cereals/ cakes/ ham eggs and cheese.
The restaurant was also very atmospheric and the food good with an excellent wine list. We did however find the menu a little limited- I think they need a small menu that changes daily though what they produced was very good with generous portions.
The family are lovely. They don't speak a lot of English but enough to get by. Nothing was too much trouble and pre dinner drinks were always served with crisps and/or olive tapenade and bread.
Would I go back..... Absolutely. Can't wait.
A previous reviewer said that they didn't think places like this existed any more (in the best possible way). I am so glad they do and this one is an absolute gem.
If you want clinical generic 4* this is not for you. If you fancy charm and atmosphere and a big welcoming smile then this place is right up your street. Enjoy!

A small family hotel since decades furnished and decorated with traditional alpine materials and furniture. Bedrooms are small but well equipped and clean. Located right in the center it is easy to only walk for visiting the town. Breakfast is excellent. A good family ambiance that gives you the feeling to be at home. Excellent value for money! Warning: no lift!

Room tip: Roos on the backside are quieter. Mind the staircase : no lift. Don't miss the hotel's restaurant

I really did not believe that places like this still existed.

Old fashioned in the very best sense of those words. By which I mean welcoming, friendly, comfortable, well-appointed family run and inexpensive.

In centre of this busy town - easy to find, but tricky to park - until you get the code for the free secure parking. Comfortable bed, piping hot water and a much larger breakfast than one usually finds in a French hotel.

We ate in the very reasonably priced restaurant - excellent home-prepared food. Very good but inexpensive wine list.

And - wherever you looked - great big mountains. As well, of course, as the three level Vauban fortifications.

Don't miss this gem. Especially if you like BEARS - hundreds of them - everywhere (not real ones, folks!)

Friendly, family run hotel imaginatively decorated with hand carved timber figures and curious implements. The rooms are comfortable and anything but plain and uninteresting. Dinner is generous in both quantity and quality - perfect for hungry cyclists!
Would not hesitate to stay again and Briancon is a great place to explore.

Room tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

A wonderful family run hotel, lovely rooms with character rather like the whole hotel. The dining room was charming and the bar/reception was full of wooden animals and pens and all sorts of hand made mountain things. The food was great and very imaginary with lovely service from all the family.
They have run the hotel since 1892 and are the 5th generation to do so.
Secure parking and we did half board for EUR75 per person per night so how good value is that!!!!!
We will definitely go there again.

Room tip: Rooms 14 and 8 where we stayed were great.
