Nice Comfortable Stay

Review of Hotel Edelweiss
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Nov 2019
The room though a little small and cramped was good value and most importantly very clean and comfortable. We also had a lovely view of the mountains. The staff were pleasant and helpful and all in all we enjoyed our 3 night stay here. It is in a great position for visiting the old town just a short walk up the hill. There was no wifi reception in our room, but it was not a real problem as for casual use it was easy to go into the very pleasant and comfortable lounge and access it there.
The only real negative for us was that we are older travellers with some mobility problems and we arrived by train on a Sunday evening when there were no taxis at the station and no buses running. The hotel is about a 1.2km walk from the station and the last 500m is up quite a steep hill. This was very difficult for us with luggage, so just be aware. No problem if you arrive by car or can use a taxi, and we would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a good value 2 star property.

The good. Close to town (10-15 min walk). Room seems to have been refurbished. Breakfast just ok.

New room except for old mattress. Double mattress was really two twin beds pushed together. Bed very low, thin, and cheap. Glass slide patio door old and had condensation which made it hard to see out of. Internet was unusable. They need to spend some money and upgrade the bandwidth of the internet.

Heard almost every word from my neighbours. Water in shower ran hot or cold unexpectedly. I did have a decent sleep. Breakfast buffet was small but good enough. Seems they cater to motorcyclists, there were about a dozen bikes in the parking lot. I was also touring by bike. They even had towels in the lobby for drying the bikes. Staff were friendly and courteous.

Didn’t have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The room was a good size as was the bathroom. It was clean and there were plenty of towels. The bed was really hard so I struggled to get comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is in a good location only a few minutes walk down the hill to the restaurants. There is also a lovely bakery just at the roundabout down from the hotel. Breakfast was basic but the bread and croissants were fresh. Had to pay an extra 10 Euro each for it. It was a good stop over on the way to Chamonix.

What was supposed to be an overnight stop on the way to Chamonix turned into an unexpected surprise. Beautiful old town and comfortable hotel. Great breakfasts with parking on site. Short walk to old town and restaurants

Stayed here mid September after completing two weeks walk along the GR5 from the Chamonix valley. We booked the day before arrival and it was perfectly situated between the old town and the Gare and lower town.
Arriving early... we only had a half day walk from Lanslebourg, we were able to leave our packs and explore Briancon. Perfectly comfortable room, more than adequate breakfast, great location, and best of all, all the staff were exceptionally helpful & friendly.
The 'owner'? tried to help with an onward transport problem...we needed to be in Grenoble the following night before catching a flight home from Geneve and there was a bus replacement service on the railway. Plus another minibus ( Ligne 35) direct, which we eventually caught.
If I'm ever in Briancon again then the Edelweiss will be my first choice
