We stayed at the Stour Barn for two nights over a weekend. It's a beautiful cottage which has everything. There is a welcome breakfast hamper which was delicious! The barn is well equipped and Carl has thought of everything. The best part is the private enclosed garden with hot tub. This made our stay complete, as it was lovely to sit outside in the evenings and enjoy the hot tub also. It was also lovely to have our breakfast outside in the garden. Carl is a very friendly and welcoming host, and we would definitely return given the opportunity. Many thanks!
We booked here very last minute after our wedding. We were not disappointed we were met by John who was so lovely and explained everything to us. We were then left to relax. 5 stars really does not do this place justice! We will definitely be back! ( we don’t even own a dog)!!!! Thank your Carl for accepting our last minute booking!
I found the barns while looking for dog friendly accommodation and certainly hit the jackpot. Communication by Carl was excellent in the lead up to our visit. We were met by his colleague John on arrival, who made us feel welcome and fully comfortable in Alde Barn.
The barns aren’t just dog friendly they fully welcome that important other family member! From the meadow field for excercise, which has a separate space for more nervous, to the dog treat pack on arrival. That said the barns would be great for those without dogs as there is an expectation that owners, as they should, take responsibility for their dog. Our boy loved his stay as much as we did.
The barn itself was lovely, the welcome breakfast hamper of local produce was a great touch. The amenities were all excellent, such a well equipped, clean kitchen. Comfotable bed ensured a good nights sleep, especially as the place is so peaceful, and the waterfall shower certainly got you awake for the day. Toasty underfloor heating kept us warm after the heatwave, I even wanted a mini cold snap to try the log burner which was all set ready for use! Logs easily available for £5. The hot tub was lovely, in a beautiful arranged area in the garden.
The information pack on the surrounding area was really helpful, and the comments books left by other visitors added to this, so we were able to plan some dog friendly trips in beautiful Suffolk.
Only critique we could make was the knives needed sharpening, which is testimony to how perfect the place is! We will definitely be back, for at least a 5 day stay next time, and I can’t give a better recommendation than that. Book you really won’t be disappointed!
Thanks Carl and all the team!
Lovely few days away from it all in the oh so lovely Alde Barn. Breakfast basket was very generous and all delicious local produce. We made full use of the dog field every morning, and used the hot tub and bbq in the evenings. Enclosed garden was perfect for our exuberant pup! Charming accommodation and the area was really stunning and with so few people (compared to where we live in south London!). Heaven! Had day trips out as there is so much to see and do in the area. We will be back and will be recommending you to others. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks, Carl.
The booking for a 4 night midweek stay at the Barns was simple and easy, made over the internet. It was simple, as well, to follow up later by e-mail as we wanted some further advice and assistance over and above the site e-mails forwarded to us.
One piece of advice above all others is that these lodges, as luxurious and well-appointed as they are, is that this is a self-catering site and should not be confused with hotel 5-star amenities.
A charge of £15 per dog, should you take one, is added during the booking process. The deposit is £100 per Cottage per booking, with the balance of the price payable one month prior to your arrival date (over the Christmas festive period the balance payment is 8 weeks before arrival). The booking is only confirmed when they send you a confirmation of your booking after your deposit has been cleared. Cancellation refunds are subject to the cottage being resold.
Woodfarm Barns is a collection of seven charmingly presented holiday cottages, set in the Suffolk countryside. These include a 500-year-old farmhouse for larger parties and six cottages ideal for couples, some of which have their own private hot tub.
The barns are situated in a small and exclusive site near Stonham Aspal, just of the A1120. My satnav took me almost there using the postcode given in the initial site e-mail and then following directions given in the same e-mail. There is parking at the site for each Barn, again see the site e-mail and web for further information. You are surrounded by quiet country lanes, untouched hedgerows and abundant wildlife and have access to an enclosed 2 acre meadow where the dog can run free without fear and a shelter (upturned boat called Boaty McBoatface) if it rains. Though the Barns are next to a working business area the noise from this did not overly affect us during our stay.
On arrival we were greeted by John and directed to our Barn, before being shown around it and its many features. It is well worth listening to the advice given during this initial tour as it contains some excellent guidance and recommendations. Each barn also has a selection of brochures for the local area and ideas for places to visit from past visitors.
Our Barn, with its underfloor heating, had an open plan living/dining/kitchen area (with shabby chic furniture & wood-burning stove), ensuite double bedroom (with bednob’s and broomstick style bed) and high ceilings into the gables, enclosed well-lit garden (with a covered hot tub, barbeque, ice bucket, etc). Wi-Fi is also available free.
The site has, for communal use; recycling bins, a little shed with full of books, dvds, extra towels for you to use for your dog when it rains, extra wood (at a cost) for your wood burner and bikes to use for free. There is also a lovely pond and seating area where you can sit and have an evening drink whilst enjoying the environment and resonances of the site.
Highlight; The excellent Breakfast Basket of locally sourced produce (eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, bread, butter, milk, jam & marmalade, fresh fruit, cookies etc), along with all your towels, bed linen, dressing gowns, disposable slippers, shampoo, shower gel, luxury liquid hand soap, tea, coffee, sugar and luxury treats for the puppy.
Lowlight; having to clean the barbeque and various kitchen utensils and items before they could be used!
The site itself is within easy driving distance of Ipswich, Felixstowe, Aldeburgh, Framlington and Southwold to name just a few places to visit during your stay. You will need to note though that certain Suffolk beaches (May-September normally) may well not be ‘closed’ to dogs. There a several superb pubs (some dog friendly), restaurants, deli's, coffee & farm shops and loads of great shopping within easy driving distance as well.
All in all a very enjoyable stay in a special place if you want a relaxing, chill out, break.
