Lovley pub, good ales, great food, but ruined by children being allowed to run amok and do what they want. Why is there no respect nowadays ???

The history of the Bottle House is proudly displayed and the building has been around since 1492 according to the leaflet, however our friends had booked us in for a meal, which was pretty disappointing. The thing which helped was first class service and all with a smile. As a Northerner, I thought that the wine prices were pretty steep for what arrived, but as I was picking up the tab and it was a good evening with our friends, I didn't complain. Our friends who new the place well, also were disappointed with the standard of the food.

Our walking group stopped here for a drink just as the heavens opened. We were welcomed with open arms, and assured that we didn't have to take off our boots. We were even guided to the most suitable table, able to accommodate our day bags, jackets etc. The beer was good, the staff attentive, and the food we saw served to other tables looked very appetising.

My son was over from US looking forward to an 'good Sunday roast'. I chose The Bottle House after searching as it always used to be good and the website promised great food. After pre dinner drinks in the garden, our meal was ready. We were surprised to see our food already on the table before we sat down. Meat was good, roast pots were hard like they'd been cooked much earlier, yorkshires soft, not crisp, carrots were nicely cooked, a small bowl of overcooked cabbage and beans for 5 people. I chose wild berry cheesecake wich sounded good, we found big lumps of rubbery stuff which we were told was "only lumps of undissolved gelatin"...oh that's ok then!!..sorry won't be revisiting.

Deep in the countryside you will find a modern pub menu .There are traditional meals as well as meals with a modern twist. Pleasant staff and decor . Very busy at weekends . Enjoyed our meal Will go back.
