Compared to the spacious layout of Minh Manh Tomb, this 12th emperor's tomb reflects the loss of fortune & prestige, built on a small plot of hillside (tiny by royal standards) using cheap ugly gray concrete exteriors and gaudy ceramic mosaic interiors. No depth, no grandeur, a sad portrayal of a king oppressed by French colonial forces.

This tomb was very impressive for me.Scale is much more smaller than Minh Mang. But both of outside and inside of this tomb are totally luxurious and gorgeous.

Khai Dinh was educated in France so his tomb architecture is influenced by European/French architecture. Thus there are elements of European design, especially in the glass mosaics on the walls, and the furniture and ceiling friezes. The temple/tomb structures have a specific pattern in which to walk and while there are bus groups here, we were not hindered as we walked through the temple areas. You may have to be patient to get the photo shot you want if there are tour groups. There are also on the walls, many black and white photos which are interesting. Be sure to bring water no matter what time of day you visit as there are numerous steps to climb. The grounds around this temple are much smaller than grounds around other burial tombs of other emperors so this site can be visited in less time than other tombs.

Totally different than the other tombs (small and on the mountain side) you visit a building which could also be in Europe, but if you enter it you know that you are not in Europe... :-) It's defenitly worth to be visited. Maybe you stop on the way at the statue of the Goddess Of Mercy (Guanyin).
