Although a more modern tomb (1920-30s) I found this very beautiful with all the detail in the sculptures and the porcelain mosaic work depicting the seasons. The site overlooks mountains and green countryside very picturesque. Visit early to avoid heat and crowds.

This was the second tomb we visited during a downpour in Hue, after the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang. Compared to the tomb of Minh Mang, the tomb of Khai Dinh was breathtaking, especially the intricate architecture of the inner tomb which simply took my breathe away. The clever juxtaposition of Western and Oriental architectural styles was simply amazing. Some parts of the tomb complex remind me of Borobudor and Versailles too. Take your camera along, though no flash photography is allowed in the inner tomb.

I visited 2 tombs, this one is highly decorated with Vietnamese and European art probably because he was the first Emperor to have visited France. The location is beautiful, built on top of a hill. The stone statues of animals and mandarins before the masusoleum are striking.

Of all the tombs in Hue, this is the one which stood out for me. The mosaic designs in the inner section was like none I have ever seen before. "Mosaic on steroids", is what came to my mind.
