“Classic Cottage in an Ideal Location!”

Our group of nine (18-72) loved everything about Gorse Cottage. The house had plenty of space for our group. The bathrooms were extremely nice and the bedrooms were comfortable. The large table in the kitchen was the center of activity, perfect for meals, games and just talking. We cooked several meals and lacked for nothing in the kitchen. The house instruction book was helpful. The views were amazing in all directions. I found a postcard that I swear was taken from the front yard. The location was ideal for day trips to Galway, the Cliffs, Kilkee and the Burren. It was also excellent for beautiful walks. Each night we would gather outside to watch the sunset over the Atlantic which were breathtaking. Ted was very helpful with advice on where to go for the best music each night. Cindy's communication was quick and clear, this made the rental logistics very simple. This was the sixth house we've rented on our trips to Ireland and it was a favorite. Highly recommend!

Lovely feedback. Thanks so much. It's great to hear that you had a good time and enjoyed the house. We think it's a great spot too, but always great to hear it from somebody else.

“The perfect base to explore the west of Ireland”

Gorse Cottage is a lovely, clean, well-appointed cottage where our family recently enjoyed a week in the west of Ireland. The location was perfect to explore the surrounding counties and a short hop to Doolin for the music and Lisdoonvarna to stock up on groceries. We arrived early in the driving rain and the cleaning lady graciously invited us in to change into dry clothing while she finished tidying the upstairs. We were warmly welcomed by Ted, the owner's father who not only provided us with the key, but also with lots of useful information about the area. All of us, including ten-year old twin granddaughters, agreed that we would return again without hesitation.

Liked best: The cottage has a wonderful wood stove in the family room-great for the rainy evenings!
Liked least: The television is antiquated and there is no cable service. Would have been nice for the children to get a look at kids' tv shows in a foreign country and we would have enjoyed watching the British Open.

Thanks s much for your kind review. It's always a joy for us to hear about the experiences of our guests in Gorse Cottage. While we can't be there ourselves as much as we might like it gives great pleasure to know that it's being shared with other like minded folk who share our love of the west of Ireland.

“Peaceful cottage near it all!”
Reviewed 10 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Our family of nine (five older kids, parents, and grandparents) loved our time at Gorse Cottage. It was such a peaceful haven to return to at the end of a busy day seeing the beautiful sights of County Clare! There was plenty of room to spread out and there were places to go if you just wanted a little quiet to read (lots of books if you forgot to bring one), but the main living space was also great to gather around a warm stove and play some games! The kitchen was well equipped and easy to cook in and the bathrooms were very nice and modern! Our daughters went on quite a few walks. They made it to Ballinalacken Castle, the sea shore and of course discovered the famous horses nearby and were instantly in love! There are so many things to do in the area but a few of our favorites were our guided hike through the Burren which was way more interesting and picturesque than we were expecting and our Sunday night traditional dancing in nearby Kilfenora! The locals were so sweet and patient with us as we tried out our rusty dancing moves and it was one of our girls favorite nights of our whole trip! Also the BEST way to see the Cliffs is by the guided walk from Doolin, the whole way is beautiful and you get many moments of other-worldliness which can be hard to get with the throngs at the Cliffs themselves! So many wonderful memories coming back as I write this, but you all will just have to come here and experience this magical place for yourself!!

I'm so glad to hear you had a good holiday. It really matters to us that our guests enjoy their stay. Sounds like you really got to see many of the sights during your short stay, but as you indicated there is so much more to see and do in this part of the world. Yes the cliff walk from Doolin to the cliffs of Moher really is stunning. We often do that ourselves. There is a good path which starts at the Fisher Street end of Doolin and takes you all the way to the cliffs, so while it's very nice to get a guide it's also a quite "doable" for most people without one....so long as normal sensible precautions are taken. We hope you come back again some day and maybe take a picnic out to the islands and hire some bicycles. It's wonderful to cycle along the tiny island roads where there are no cars to worry about. Or visit the rock pools at Liscannor where there's also a popular swimming area. Or kyacking at White Strand and so much more. Thank you very much for your lovely review, it was great to read about your stay.

“Beautiful Views, Perfect Spot to Enjoy Ireland”
Reviewed 22 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We ( my senior mom, sister and I middle aged travelers) all enjoyed the cottage so much. In fact it was hard to leave when everything we loved about Ireland was there. The views from cottage were exceptional. I woke up everyday to a beautiful view of the cliffs, the green countryside and the aran islands. We picked up groceries in Lisdoonverna and there was everything in the kitchen to make great meals, the stove is huge and modern. The bedding was lovely and clean and bathrooms are modern. Ted the owner's dad was one of the highlights of our trip, he provided tips on the music and where to go and when. We used the wood stove which was set up and ready to go. There were great books which we all read and have to admit we did not use the TV at all. We used Alamo Cabs John Sheedy who was so great, picked us up and took us everywhere we need to go. This is a cottage in a rural area but is accessible within a few minutes to Doolin. All in all, the best part of our trip.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Sometimes we forget ourselves what a great spot this is when we are focused on this bit of the house that needs to be painted or that appliance that needs to be upgraded so it really is lovely to get the perspective a new visitor. It was great to have such nice guests staying.

“Stay of a lifetime!”
Reviewed 21 June 2015 for a stay in June 2014

I stayed last summer for 2 weeks with my husband, mother, aunt and two boys. Words can not express how much we loved the home. The view is breathtaking. You can see ruins, the Cliffs of Moher, horse, Erin Islands and a pasture with horses all in one glance. My boys ran wild in the safe and beautiful land waking to feed the horses every morning. Straight down the path from the house we were lead to the ocean through beautiful fields of flowers, sheep and ruins.
At the top of the hill was the father, Ted, who invited us up to a bbq, a jam session (he is a local singing legend), and even a ride to the pub one night. We listen to him sing multiple nights around the local area. My son even recorded a Beatles song with him in his studio! He still talks about that!
The house was warm and inviting and had everything we needed. The local store in Lisdoonvarna, provided us with local beef and goods that we cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. We ate breakfast out in the beautiful garden. There is a view of the ocean from every window. My favorite was out of the half door from the entrance.
It has been a year since we stayed and I think of that view everyday since. My kids are saving their birthday and spending money so we can get back there as soon as possible. Best vacation ever!
