Review of Burren Hills Walk

Burren Hills Walk
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 October 2017

It was a rainy and very windy day (early October) to hike the Burren...we thought Shane may cancel our plans to see this magnificent landscape. But no, he showed with walking sticks, dressed perfectly for the weather and off we went! Discussion of the area, the people, plants and geology..so interesting, we loved Shanes stories and humor and learned so much. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip.

Shane is an improv artist who's media includes a diverse knowledge of flora, fauna, and farming, geology, archeology, and, dare I say, a sharp wit. You'll laugh till you cry while climbing a mountain or hillside as you learn more about the Burren than you could imagine in a tour that you define. This was my second 'walk' through the Burren. Just had to share the experience with a friend!

Shane is fantastic (and hilarious), and his extensive knowledge of the burren, history, flora and fauna present an idea opportunity to discover a bit of County Clare. I can't recommend signing up for a tour with him enough. We mete him at the parking lot next to the church in Ballyvaughan, and there were only four of us on the walk so we piled into his car (his boot is loaded with hazelwood walking sticks!) and we did the Black Head Mountain walk (about 3.5 hours). A stop at the round fort at the top offered a moment of respite from the wind and some more story telling, question and answers. Really top notch- bring good shoes and rain gear!

went for a great walk around mullaghmore loop.took about 3 hours. graded as very difficult and it certainly was due to the uneven surface that was very hard on the feet even with walking boots. however worth it for the wonderful views.
