Excellent hotel

Review of Me & Mrs Jones
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Oct 2024via mobile
Excellent hotel, we stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful stay.
The lady on reception was very helpful and organized bookings for our evening Meals and went out of her way to look after us. The breakfast was excellent standard, everything cooked fresh and the lady waitress was excellent. Both evening meals were served by friendly and hard working staff and food was fantastic. Room was quirky and extremely clean and well maintained. Highly recommend
The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly at this hotel

My partner and I stayed here over the weekend and cant believe I had never been before. From start to finish everything was perfect. Molly on reception was so welcoming and couldnt do enough for us. Food and service was 10/10. Planning to bring my mum for her 60th birthday in April next year for a night away and afternoon tea

We recently attended a wedding reception in Me and Mrs Jones.
On arrival through the main entrance, we were completely ignored by the receptionist who sat with her back to us and engaged in conversation with another colleague. This did not make a good first impression. Subsequent food service was slow and appeared disorganised, and the food itself was well below the standard we expected from a 4-star venue. A number of issues arose in the lead up to the wedding and on the day itself, and the bride was treated disgracefully by certain hotel staff. Very disappointing.

Attended a wedding here. Quite a few issues occured on the day before and day of the wedding all created by the venue.

They double sold a couple of the bridal parties groups rooms so they had to find accommodation elsewhere at the last minute.

They asked for thousands of pounds extra the day before and threatened to cacel the wedding if this new made up charge was not paid. This seemed extortionate to threaten a couple with this the day before their wedding.

They had the cheek to ask the wedding photographer to take promotional photos of their rooms and venue on the couples dime.

I found all of the above extremely unprofessional and no compensation was provided from management over the issues not even the two rooms that were included in the package but not provided on the day.

Aside from all of the above.
The food was mediocre and overpriced.

Wouldn't have put it past them to sell the bridal suite on the day if someone had of walked through the door and offered cash the morning of the wedding.

The bar staff were the one redeeming feature of the venue on the day as they were very helpful.

If booking a large event here. Make sure you get everything in writing as with their large staff turnover they are likely to forget what they agreed to and ask for thousands more leading up to your event.

Be prepared to have to sort accommodation elsewhere if they double sell a room you book if someone walks in off the street and offers more cash.

I realise hotels are a business and want to make money but I have never seen a venue prioitising extra profits to such an extent that they seemingly try to extort their customers at the last minute upon threat of cancelling a wedding. To then further sell rooms already sold and refuse any form of compensation for the acts beggars belief. But hey, you could have all that to look forward too if you book your wedding here.

The Anubis statue by the toilets matches well the hellish wedding experience the venue created in this instance.

Room tip: Get all agreements for events in writing and backup copies for yourself so they are less likely to be able to go back on their agreed prices

We stayed here for our anniversary in Feb 22 Food was good. Room was fab.
Cocktails were to easy to drink 😂.
A very easy night's stay.
No problems with staff or checking in or out. Had an upgrade on arrival and a lovely card for our anniversary.
Would definitely stay again.

1/5 because of how appallingly my sister-in-law and brother-in-law were treated at their wedding at Mr & Mrs Jones.

The day before the wedding the bride got some (terrifying) calls from the venue saying that if they didn't pay an extra previously undisclosed 5 grand they were going to cancel the wedding.. I can only imagine how much stress that adds to a day that's supposed to be the happiest in your life.

To add insult to injury, the hotel double booked some of the bridal party with other guests in the same room. A genuine mistake you might think - but the way a staff member called Brenda responded made it so much worse. They didn't fix the problem and ON THE DAY OF HER WEDDING, the same Brenda said to the Bride that she shouldn't (I quote) "give me that sh*t" and she should have "never given her the rooms that cheap anyway". I'm sorry, what? That's not how you do business point blank and it's certainly not how you treat a bride on her literal wedding day. It was truly shocking behaviour.

They also demanded a further undisclosed 3 grand for the buffet which was previously included - making that a total of 8k that the bride and groom had no idea about.

Obviously, this sort of thing means that anyone considering the venue for their wedding, shouldn't - unless you want to be sworn at on your wedding day and suffer thousands of pounds of hidden charges.

Chris was a legend though, you made a terrible situation as good as it could be on that day - we love you Chris <3
