Great staff, views and food! A Royal treat.

Three couples from our walking club booked a two night break with breakfast and one evening meal at the Royal Court in early Oct. The first visit by any of us and it will not be the last. The views from the dining room are amazing across the North Channel to the Western Isles of Scotland and to Donegal in the RoI. Walking on the beach below the hotel before breakfast was good for the morale. Kite surfers, horse riders, runners and dog walkers clearly love White Rocks. Lots to do and see on Ulster's north coast even in autumn. Not least the new Design enterprise in the old courthouse in Bushmills and nearby largest art gallery in this part of the UK. Staff at the Royal Court are a joy to be with. The bedrooms are not large though one can pay a little extra for a sea view. Piles of car parking and quiet at night. Rooms comfortable and very well care for by the staff.

Room Tip: Car needed for most and do explore the walk way down to the beach plus the miles of glorious...

This is a nice hotel in a good location to explore the North Coast including the Giants Causeway.
We found the staff to be excellent and very helpful and our stay was comfortable. Views from the restaurant and terrace are superb.
However, many of the rooms have views over the rear of the building and car park which is a real shame. The food was also a little bit basic, lots of fried stuff and not particularly imaginative.
Overall a good place to stop and enjoy this lovely coastline.

Room tip: Try and get one of the rooms with a sea view.

Stopped off at the Royal Court Hotel for a meal in their restaurant, can highly recommend the food and especially the staff, very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent, we had the carvery main course and it was delicious, chef was very good and his food was was perfect.

I visited the Royal Court on Friday afternoon for a birthday lunch. We were shown to our table by a young gentleman who basically just left us there with no menu or offer of drinks. Several staff members were loitering and not busy so I was disappointed not to have been handed a menu, offered a drink and given an explanation of the food choices on offer.

When I asked another member of staff for a menu and a drink there was no explanation of the carvery or menu choices available so I worked that out for myself. I noted that prices on the typed menu had been covered with Tipp-Ex and then written on with pen. Yes prices have increased but how difficult would it be to re-print a menu? It's just not professional to do it that way!

I enquired if there was a vegetarian option available on the carvery and was told no. I asked why but no explanation could be given so the manageress was then sent over to me. She said it was only a "small carvery" and this was why it did not include a vegetarian option. I have never dined at a carvery that did not offer a vegetarian option before. I have been vegetarian for thirty plus years so have sampled quite a few. Several meat options were provided on the carvery at Royal Court - roast beef, turkey, gammon, meat pie and liver, so I found it hard to accept that no meat free option could be included.

I ordered vegetable lasagne from the menu which was nice enough. My friend had the carvery and was happy with the food but did comment that it needed to be eaten quickly as it wasn't very warm. Dessert was fine.

I had previously dined at Royal Court earlier this year and booked the table via email. When I arrived they had no record of my booking and were actually going to send me away (the dining room was extremely busy). I provided proof of their email reply to confirm my booking so they were forced to honour it. No real apology was made.

Another disappointing experience from a hotel that has such a great location/views. My overall opinion is that Royal Court would need to step it up a gear where dining is concerned as there are a huge variety of eateries nearby that could easily outdo what they have to offer.

Despite our hesitations, we always give the Sunday carvery another go. The views are great, the food is nice, and the portions are large. However, there is one thing that absolutely ruins the experience every time...

The staff are absolutely miserable. Every single one of them working the Sunday carvery, every single time. Not a single one of them can muster even a fake smile on their face. Any small request at all is met with a glare. It is a genuinely horrible atmosphere, and it is clear that not a single one of them enjoys working there. I have no idea what on earth makes them all so angry.

The carvery… I’m still confused. Basically we booked the carvery as locals told us it was nice and was 3 courses, then when we got there we asked 3 members of staff how it worked, if you got the 3 courses for £28? And they all gave a different answer but basically told us it was extra for a starter or dessert there was no 3 course option, so we then thought we were paying £28 for just a dinner (which was alright not outstanding) turns out the carvery is £17 for just the carvery even though the menu says £28 so is the £28 for the 3 courses? Should just have on the menu how much it is for 1 course, 2 course etc. in fairness the staff all look about 14 so probably haven’t a lot of experience.
