This was my second stay at the hotel, and while I was excited to book the sea view bay window room, which is marketed as the best, I was left somewhat underwhelmed. To start with the positives, the hotel itself is lovely, and the staff are truly excellent. However, I found that the room I stayed in during my first visit was much nicer, particularly the bathroom, which felt more modern and comfortable compared to this one.
Unfortunately, the heating in the room was a challenge. The air conditioning unit wasn’t functioning, so the room was uncomfortably warm. We had to leave the windows open, which led to significant noise from outside. Additionally, the fridge in the room was very loud, so we ended up switching it off. To make matters worse, there was a draft under the door, which created a howling sound when we tried to cool the room down. While I understand the need for the hotel to keep guests warm during colder weather, the room’s temperature was far from a comfortable sleeping level, and we couldn’t adjust the radiators.
On a brighter note, the breakfast was excellent, as always, and the cocktails were delightful. We ordered a cheese board, which was beautifully presented, though some of the crackers were stale. Once we mentioned it to a member of staff, she promptly brought us fresh crackers and even added extra cheese, handling the situation brilliantly. The customer service was faultless throughout.
However, one small letdown was the check-out process. Nobody asked us about our stay, and in hindsight, I should have brought up these issues then. I don’t want this to come across as overly negative because the hotel as a whole is fabulous, but I was disappointed that this particular room didn’t meet the high standards I’d come to expect, especially considering the price. I hope these points can be addressed, as this is otherwise a wonderful place to stay.
