Description: The Red Lion, the oldest pub in Skipton. Dating back to the 13th Century the building was first used as a Monastery and then a 100 years later as a Leper Hospital. It began life as a Pub in the 16th Century. One of our fire places is date stamped 1681,can you find it? Our long standing neighbour is Skipton Castle, the only Norman Castle with a roof on, and is rumoured to be linked to us by underground tunnels rumours abound that it is from the well in the court yard.It is said to be haunted by 4 separate ghosts; two of which a fomer Landlord and his 4 year old daughter, who died in suspicious circumstances. Watch out though, they are said to be seen regularly around the building,

Decided to call in her for lunch on Wednesday 2nd of May we picked our table but as soon as we sat down all you could smell was cat wee so we moved to a small table I front of the bar while having a look through the menu we was shocked to hear swearing at the bar and people saying that they are just interested in getting hammered so it won't hurt having their stitches out we decided we did not fancy any food so thought we would just get a drink so my husband stood at the bar and the bar man walked past him twice without acknowledging him so we just left without ordering anything rude staff

Thank Dawn I

Initially fancied the burger, however they had ran out so had to opt opted for the steak sandwich. This arrived in brown sliced bread (warburtons style), rather than a ciabatta/baguette as you would expect. There were 3 strips of 'steak' which was actually more gristle, and it arrived cold.

The menu description '28-day aged rump steak, with mature Cheddar cheese, caramelised red onion chutney and lettuce' - don't let it fool you...it was awful.

I will never eat here again.

We had been watching our first team play cricket in Skipton, thought we would have tea at the Red Lion. We have been before, this time the food was very good and well presented. My husband had fish and chips which he said were quality, and it's his favourite dish so that's praise indeed. I had peppered mushroom pie with vegetables really tasty indeed, can really recommend this pub/restaurant. It's just a very pleasant place to eat.
