Staying at Malham in the heart of the Dales, rather a wt day so off we went to Skipton Castle, glad we did, such a tremendous castle and so well kept up together, very interesting history and a very worthwhile visit. Skip is a nice town to shop in too.

Very pleasant and interesting visit. Staff were very informative and welcoming. The castle and grounds are very well kept. There are also some lovely tea shops and cafes nearby.

Fantastic place! Kids loved exploring (as did I). Reasonably priced for the amount of history you see. There wasn't a guided tour when we went so it would have been good to have one.
Take a walk into Skipton afterwards - what a beautiful place!

This is a 'must go' place if you're visiting Skipton because it is one of the few castles which is virtually complete with all roofing in place, it therefore differs to most which are in ruins and you are able to gain a better understanding of what it must have been like to live there. It also has a fascinating history and played a significant role in the Civil War.
We were surprised how much there was to see and the guided tour leaflet meant that all visitors follow the same route so avoiding overcrowding.
The Tudor wing is still occupied so, sadly, it is not open to the public.
