I can't say to be a usual customer, but I've been at Balin three or four times before today.
It's always surprising, today once more. If you love new food experience, made with very high quality ingredients from the "Piemontese" tradition you will love it.

We read about this restaurant on the Gastronauta review. It is quite far from everywhere but the place is nice and cozy with a nice fireplace. The menu is interesting with a good choice of dishes from the Piemontese tradition. Our expectations where high but unfortunately the food was not as imagined. The dishes were well presented but the risotto was pre-cooked with gummy grains, the fried 'cervella' was far from perfect and the bollito quite poor. The price was not worth the quality of the food.

This is a very nice restaurant in the countryside of eastern Piedmont, in a a region of rice fields. Warm welcome form the owners, and good service. In the menu, you will find the "risotto" dishes that you would expect, and main dishes maybe more typical of a wider Piedmont tradition, rather than local. This time I could not find frogs, or sweet water fishes that you might imagine to find in this area. Maybe in another season less dry that this one. Go more "local" with the wine: you can find very good bottles from North-East Piedmont: Gattinara, Ghemme, Lessona etc.. These are based on the Nebbiolo grape, elsewhere more famous as Barolo or Barbaresco.
Finally, about the map: what currently shown in the Tripadvisor page is misleading: the restaurant is several km further away from Livorno Ferraris, close to the road between Crescentino and Vercelli.

If you decide to visit the Italian version of Springfield you won't meet Homer Simpson, but a very secluded and exclusive small restaurant, better a trattoria where the chef owns and runs it like a starred restaurant with great food, from the Piedmont region of course, served with class by trained waiters and accompanied by great wines.
You will get some amuse bouche before you start, everything is home made from bread to the special panissa, a local version of rice with beans and sausage, a real must.
Don't be scared by the nuclear mosquitos, you are in riceland and they are the kings here; leave your car quickly and run to the restaurant, it is worth the race.

Great food in a cute country setting. Beautiful risotto with parmagena, stunning little meat filled pasta and truffle sauce. We also had some local wines which was recommended by the staff. Both reds were very good value (not Barolo, as we couldn't afford it). We also tried the fried frogs which is a local dish. Like a heavy version of fried whitebait. The staff can speak english so ordering was easy. Thoroughly recommended.
