This small but highly interesting museum tells many fascinating stories about events and people of The Chatham Islands, with many objects and pictures to illustrate the array of historical stories. Well worth a visit.
The museum is open weekdays for a few hours in the morning.
It’s small and has been lovingly put together. Given the resources they have done a great job.
Absolutely spend half an hour here when on the island.
But as the Chathams lacks the history of Norfolk Island or the natural significance of other island groups it won’t wow you.
This is a small museum in the heart of Waitangi showcasing local artefacts and history. Apparently there are plans to modernise (it is old-fashioned, but no less interesting for all that). Free entry; open during the week.
The manager/curator, Eva, was very welcoming.
a jam packed museum full of details about the past life of the Chatham Islands a 'must do' visit. Combine with a visit to the old TV studio and a walk on the beach.
This museum in the government "center" contains artifacts from different periods of Chatham life, as well as old photos. It's only one room, but makes for a good and informative visit.
This is a very small museum but it is packed with heaps of information about Chatham and Pitt Islands. There is lots to read as well as to look at.
There is no charge but it is expected that a donation be given.
Nice to see a local person working in the museum, nothing like talking to those who have had families living on the Islands for generations with real stories to tell.
