We've been to Israel many times and stayed in tents, hotels, guesthouses, fieldschools, etc but this place is by far the best yet. Spacious clean apartment with all the comforts of a home. Quiet area and great starting point to explore the area and for adventurous hikes in the desert. Meidan Anav, the owner welcomes you and takes his time to explain the nearby sites and hikes. He took really good care of us and brought more food than we could eat. The excellent reviews this place has on the booking sites were the reason we booked it. No regrets and well worth it.
We stayed 4 nights at GavanRomi desert home. I must say this was one of our best experiences during our recent trip in Israel !
The small community of Midreshet Ben Gurion is a good base to explore the Negev desert : it allows easy access to the En-Avadat Canyon, the Ramon Crater and several Nabatean cities. It is also quite easy from there to do a one-day return trip to Eilat (2 hours driving each way) and a visit of the beautiful Timna park on the way.
The apartment itself is actually the upper floor of a private house. It is quite large (75m2), very nicely furnished and decorated. The kitchen has everything you can think of to prepare your own meals and has plenty of ingredients at your disposal just like at home (salt, pepper, oil, sugar … even cookies and appetizers !) It is located in a very quiet residential area of “Midreshet Ben Gurion” and thus respects the silence of the desert ! It has also 2 large terraces to do sunbathing in the morning or toward the end of the day (the sun can be quite hot mid-day even in the Spring time !)
The owner, Meidan, is the most friendly host we ever met in all our trips. He gives you plenty of suggestions and recommendations of things to do and places to visit and he brings you every evening plenty of delicious food for your breakfast of the following day. Actually if you are used to having only a continental breakfast in the morning you end up with enough food for the other 2 meals of the day ! He makes sure that you never lack anything or that you don’t have any problem or question of any kind. Bottom line you have the feeling you are staying with a friend ! Thank you Meidan for your wonderful kindness and hospitality which made our visit quite memorable !
We arrived on a thursday afternoon. Meidan met us and was extremely nice and helpful. The apartment was high-standard, clean, cozy and very well equipped. There was food for breakfast in the fridge, cookies and tea/coffee. We also liked the surroundings: we had 2 walks around - one at the evening just around Midreshet Ben-Gurion, and the other in the morning in the national park which is just 2 min. walk from the apartment, free entrance. We liked the whole experience, thank you Meidan!
The best place we stayed in Israel (better than the hotels)
Perfect location, large rooms, stylish, perfectly clean, with every modcon available.
The owner (Meidan) went out of his way to make us feel comfortable, advised the best places to see and provided a fantastic breakfast (we were overwhelmed by his generosity)
There is a view spot to watch the sunrise 5 minutes walk from the house and then we walked to Ein Ovdat (recommended)
My husband and I stayed in this vacation site for two nights recently. I really only have positive things to say about the experience. The little apartment was lovely and very clean. The host was very gracious and accommodating. The apartment has everything you could want for a comfortable experience. Be aware, that the breakfast is not a cooked breakfast, rather you are provided with eggs, cheeses, etc. in the refrigerator in the apartment. There are fresh rolls and pastries provided daily as well as fruit and vegetables. If you want an omelette, you will need to cook it which we did. This didn't bother us and we actually enjoyed the privacy and the flexibility of being able to have breakfast in the style we like and when we wanted it, e.g., something quick and light before going out to hike early and then a more substantial meal upon returning after a few hours. The location is wonderful if you are looking for beautiful desert scenery, tranquility and solitude which is exactly what we were seeking. Israeli apartments can be cold in the winter, but the heating was wonderful and we were very cozy. We would definitely come back.
