An amazing experience!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Oct 2017
My friends and I stayed at the lovely Antico Borgo Monchiero for a short weekend in June based on the reviews on TA and our experience was beyond measure. The hotel employees were gracious and helpful, even enduring my lame attempts to speak Italian. Upon our return from dinner late one evening, I requested and received a glass of wine to enjoy by the pool even though everything was closed.
The rooms were well decorated and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful, with sculptures tucked throughout. We spent one day by the pool, enjoying the water, the views and the prosecco the outdoor bar was serving.
The breakfast was also fresh and delicious too!
The church bells were not an issue as I thought they added to the charm of the beautiful hotel.
I will be back for a longer stay! Thank you for an amazing experience!

We stayed at the hotel for one week (with a family of 4). Excellent experience !! Very friendly people helping you from the morning breakfast till the evening diner. Breakfast itself of top quality and plenty of choice. The hotel is also very well located in the Barolo wine region. A must go !

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The restored monastery has been expertly decorated and refurbished in an aesthetically pleasing way. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our room was a deluxe and was big enough and with enough storage space. I was really pleased to find a bath tub!
It rained 2 days and was quite chilly when we were there, so we ended up spending most of one of those days at the hotel which was very quiet and peaceful. We had a late lunch in the restaurant which was delicious. The breakfast buffet had sweet and savory options and you could order eggs if wanted.
There is not much to the village of Monchiero, so if you are looking for activity you will need to drive to Barolo, La Morra or one of the other villages not far away. Also, the church bells ring on the hour between 8 AM and 11 PM, so if that is something that will bother you, keep it in mind as they are fairly loud.
We had to check out before the breakfast service began, so the staff prepared a very generous assortment of fruit, breads, yogurt and much more for us to take on the train with us. Also, I accidentally left a few clothing items there and they are going to mail them to me at our next stop in Italy. I would say that the customer service was excellent!
This is a great place for a restful stay with beautiful surroundings!

Loved the outdoor swimming pool that is overlooking the beautiful Piemonte.
The hotel with its gorgeous homey boutique rooms, a beautiful dining room with ancient exposed brickwork, the separate breakfast chambers and its courtyard offers enough space for privacy and relaxation.
At dinner you get to chose from a broad selection of local and international wines and you get spoilt with delicious food!
We felt very welcomed and at home! Thank you

We spent 4 days in Antico Borgo. It was okay for the price but had several shortcomings:
+ Nice location (buildinh, area to visit Piemonte) and place
+ Very good dinner at the restaurant
    - Very bad service: extremely slow, partially unfriendly (my wife is pregnant and cannot eat most of the stuff for breakfast. So we bought our own creme and were rudely said that this is not allowed and we have to eat the buffet only - despite the fact that it was included), mostly not speaking English
    - Extremely bad internet connection (sometimes not working at all)

Dear Mr SimonK1983 thank you for your review, for pointing out the bad and the good.
I might have some clarification to do in order to answer to your complaints.
I have to clarify that the unfriendly and rude staff that didn't allow you to bring your own food has to maintain that behaviour since we, as hotel, cannot allow people to bring their own food from outside. All the food is certified and regulated by a strict protocol made to protect guests from being poisoned and we cannot for sure risk your safety and ours (we would be responsible for any food brought into the hotel).
We are very sorry that this episode has ruined your stay but if we were been informed about your condition, even at the beginning of your stay, we would have brought and bought you what you needed. Furthemore this problem came out only the last day while in the previous days your wife seemed to enjoy our buffet including our fresh scrumbled eggs. I also want to point out that as soon as we discovered your condition special treatments have been reserved to your wife in creating the half board dinner menu.
    Sincerely,
    La Direzione

On our road trip around Piemonte, we decided to have a bit more luxurious hotel for one night. We chose correctly, Antico Borgo was more than we hoped for. Superb & helpful staff (who all speak good English), amazing views, beautiful and spacious room, excellent restaurant and a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. The breakfast and the dinner were very good.

The hotel is built into a medieval monestary. There is a spa area, with a Finnish sauna! And a huge jacuzzi - built inside a large stone dome, perhaps an old storage area of the monestary. Definitely a place to return to. For couples seeking a peaceful getaway.
