We hired 2 of the safari tents for a week, with our teenage children, & loved it. Vicky & Alan could not have been more helpful. The staff are lovely & unobtrusive. Outside showering is fab. The site is beautifully located, away from the main tourist areas. It works best if you have hired a scooter or hire car, but a bike ride is ok. So happy we chose Ikurangi in preference to the many beach bungalows / resorts on Raro - nobody we met had much good to say about their value for money.
Things you should know -
- it rains in the tropics, & it can get windy. If you’re going to complain about weather you need to rethink whether a holiday in a tent is for you
- there’s no TV on site. Duh !
- Wi-fi speed is patchy on the island - don’t expect to be gaming
If none of this puts you off, then you’ll adore the solitude of Ikurangi, the simplicity of life in the Cook Islands and the splendour of the scenery. (Probably like Kauai was in 1960.) Pa’s medicine walk is a highlight, ditto the musical boys at Koka Lagoon Tours.
Thank you Alan, Vicky & team.
