I live in the hills and support all hills businesses. I have been to DEW many times and will have to finally review this in the most honest light.
Unfortunately this place is now terrible.
The driveway is totally in ruins. If you go in the night, no path lights lead the way.
As mch as the timber art work and balustrade offers some authenticity, The rest of the structures are rundown, even the lavender patch is gone,
Over priced on everything. Yes I can see how they try depicting the upper class and fine dining experience, but this is the wrong ambience. Start by really improving on the quality of food, presentation, portion, then worry about the rest later. It is all about the food. I was so disappointed with the fish of the day, a small morsel I could gobbl in two mouth full, it was $45/. Not happy.
The lamb rack was same, hardly any meat but lots of $ charged.
Service was lack lustre. The manager had every table to manage, whilst the girls had their own task and tables I believe. Then another man from the kitchen came out, not in uniform or proper attire, eg shirt and pants, he was instead in a polo t shirt and jst plonked the plates on our table with uttering a word! Horrible!!
If this was a restaurant in the Crown and try to serve up slick and chic food, yes maybe portion size will be small. But we are in the hills and as mch as we like a good dining experience, fine dining is not the way to go....a family restaurant style is more suited I feel. Or if you insist, go fine, but stop pretending oike you are a Michelin multi winner. Give us decent food and service and we will keep supporting you.
Last week we were privileged to hold our daughter's wedding at Darlington Estate Winery. The venue is delightfully rustic, with views out over the ranges and the bush. The winery provided the venue for the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and dancing which followed. My daughter was able to decorate the area to her liking and had several meetings with the proprietors to ensure that all their needs were met on the day. The proprietors were very obliging and the day flowed beautifully. The meals were delicious ( obviously a very competent chef) and beautifully presented. The only criticism I would make is about the male staff members who need to remember that they are serving paying customers and always present a pleasant face regardless of what sort of a day they are having, particularly the waiter . His disdainful reply of " whatever" to a comment from a guest was not warranted or appreciated. If you are over dealing with the public guys it is time to look for another job! The system of buying alcohol also needs streamlining as it is a bit convoluted. However these were minor issues which didn't detract from the overall experience. Thank you Darlington Estate Winery. We had a wonderful evening .
Great lunch, Nice sparkling, sunny day, lovely day to look out at the vineyard, excellent outlook from most places within the restaurant, helpful staff, great people
Have visited the Darlington Estate Winery on many occasions and the food is consistently perfect. It also is a beautiful setting with friendly staff. I highly recommend a visit to the Darlington Estate.
