“Lovely house with terrific views in beautiful village”

We rented this house for a week away with three generations of the family (four adults and a baby). David, the owner, was very helpful beforehand. The house itself is in a fabulous spot - great views across the valley, a footpath right outside the front door, an old church just round the corner, and two minutes walks from two good pubs. The house is full of character and well kitted out with washing machine, dishwasher and so on. The kitchen is also well equipped. The beds are very comfortable and a good size (I'm six foot six so this matters a lot to me!) However, you should get on well with the people you share the house with since noise travels a lot in the house!

We had a minor issue with the heating: the upstairs was always warm - sometimes too warm - from the storage heaters (although it's easy enough to resolve this). The downstairs, however, was often too cold with just the storage heaters - but too warm if we lit a fire in the wood burner.

I'm not sure that the house would suit groups who like to watch TV in the evenings either since the lounge area wouldn't be great for that (although it was fine for us, since we all sat around and read).

I notice a couple of other reviews mentioned the problems they had with the parking space. Essentially, unless you have a small car, it's not going to fit in the space. But this really doesn't matter at all since you can easily load and unload right outside the house (which we did e.g. with the baby) and then park in the village, from where it is - at the very most - a two minute walk up a steep hill back to the house. This might put you off, I suppose, but then why on earth are you going to that part of the world on holiday?

Thank you for your kind comments. The wood burner is capable of kicking out a lot of heat but once it is up and running, the temperature can be regulated by careful manipulation of the vents.

Liked best: the character of the Chapel house, lovely old beams, fantastic log burner, lovely setting.
Liked least: the lovely old beam which affected the access to the loo for the 2 of the bedrooms, at night time.

The top landing is split by a large beam, a king post truss. There are two short staircases either side of this beam leading to a bedroom and bathroom on one side, and two bedrooms on the other. Children (and sprightly adults such as this reviewer) may choose to go under the beam to access the bathroom from two of the bedrooms, rather than take the short staircase down and back up again on the other side.

I will look into making the car parking space bigger. Meanwhile I'd like to point out there is plenty of secure parking available nearby the church, if guests don't like the provided space. The lane is for access only and there's never been a problem about cars sticking out a few inches.
