Love the west coast and the views from the Deep South are fantastic. Quite reminiscent of the coast of the great Australian bight.
Sand flies abound so make sure you have your repellant on
We had a short 30-minute stopover at this point and enjoyed one of the most stunning sunsets we've seen in New Zealand.
The view of the ocean and the rigid rocks and islets is breathtaking and combined with a perfect weather - it was a sunset to remember.
Last time we came we could go out on a lookout but due to erosion this is no longer possible which is a shame because the view up the Coast isn't quite the same because you have to look at it through plants which have grown tall. However, it's still a good place to stop to read about the history and you can still see a view.
Nice lookout and worth a stop.
Bathroom facilities and a bit of parking but this would quick fill in the busy times.
Bring your binoculars to check out the seals.
This spot was packed with tourists when we arrived. Most appear to be interested in shooting selfies than actually admiring the beautiful attraction. Tourists from those buses were making a beeline for the limited number of toilet cubicles here too. We blended in to the activities of the crowd, not really ejoying the view too much.
Awesome views from this spot on a nice day. i'm not sure what you would be able to see on a bad day!
