Took train from Munich to Fussen and bus to Schwangau. Booked two rooms for overnight to allow touring of Hohenschwagau in the afternoon and Neuschwanstein the next morning. Easy walk from the bus stop to Landhotel Guglhupf. Stopped by on a whim late morning to see if we could drop our bags before afternoon check-in and though outside of posted reception hours Danielle warmly greeted us and provided early check-in to our rooms! This allowed touring of the castle without our overnight bags - and was truly appreciated. One room was in the main building and the other in a second building separated by a patio at the rear. Both rooms spotless, basic, of ample size and included a small sitting area. Beds were fine. Hot water for sink and shower took several minutes to arrive, but ultimately was fine. We walked from the hotel to tour Hohenschwangau (maybe a mile) and returned for afternoon cake and coffee in the small common sitting room. Danielle recommended Schlossbrauhaus in Schwangau for dinner, about a ten minute walk with wonderful views of the mountains and distant view of the castles - and dinner was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and served in a nicely set-up dining room. We rode the bus back for the Neuschwanstein tour (and stored our bags for free at the museum). Landhotel Guglhaupf was a fine accommodation and good jumping off point for our castle tours.
