The Dom is on a high hill overlooking Freising. Once you climb/walk to the top and enter the courtyard you'll be surrounded by white baroque style churches and buildings. At the opposite end of the entrance there is an overlook of the opposite side of Freising with some interesting views of the surrounding area.
As you walk toward the Dom the 12 century gothic Johanneskirche is on your left and worth a visit.
Even though the interior has changed over the centuries, the 12th century Dom itself is spectacular with its ornate white stucco framework and painted walls and ceilings. You are walking into another time as you enter the cathedral. The onsite photos attest to some of the beauty of this cathedral.
After all the walking around and can stop near by for a liquid refreshment or some fare at the Weihenstephaner am Dom restaurant if it is open.
Well worth the visit and time spent exploring the history of the cathedral.
