Karioitahi beach has black sand and lovely sweeping views. There is always something of interest going on: horses being exercised in the sea; hang gliders, motor bikes but not being intrusive and not too many people. There was a very small section of the beach being monitored by life savers and we thought that probably it is quite dangerous for swimming. Great place to go for a walk and a paddle.

We visit this beach weekly as it’s only 10mins away.

Long vast expanses of surf, sand and cliffs. Iron sand so is a black sand beach, mind your feet in the heat of the day.

It is a very popular beach with surfers, swimmers, fishermen, horses and walkers.

Patrolled by Surf Life Saving.

Motorbikes and vehicles have access as well but a permit via the council is required. Be careful of soft sand and an incoming tide, there are a few that have regretted driving on the beach.

Great place to enjoy but respect the beach and other users.

There is a very nice restaurant overlooking the beach on the cliff top.

Also accomodation available and Glamping if you wish.

Bring a picnic bag or pack a sandwich and head for this awesome windy beautiful beach, a mere 7 to 8 km out of Waiuku. We bring our dog, Lace, and she loved running along this great flat white beach. We have branches and trees washed ashore making it pure and untouched. I love viewing the tides coming in, with the wind bringing in the high waves. To add in the beauty, we are able to see Kiwi brings their horses and ride along this great long beach, the timing was right seeing the horses racing along this wonderful beach. It fell peaceful for me and watching Lace enjoying herself was just great.

Kariotahi Beach is a quiet and semi private beach.
It's mostly known and used by the locals and as it was still winter, there wasn't anyone about except a person walking alone.

Beautiful sand and lovely waters. I'm sure it'll be packed come summer.
