Great to see so many out enjoying this beach. Long beach, firm sand. Ideal for horses, bikes and take your vehicle down and put out the contiki. Lovely to walk along. Waterfall not far away along the beach. Too cold to swim but looked quite safe.
A real East coast NZ beach that is still like our beaches were 30 yrs ago. Wonderful for a stroll along at the end of the day. Bit of a noise earlier as the folks with children who have bikes have somewhere to go to ride. They then have the enjoyment of a BBQ on the each with family and friends together doing what Kiwi's do. Need to keep an eye on the tide though and the waves. Please do not swim on your own or at the end of the day without life savers on duty. Enjoy it for a walk sit and watch the sunset enjoy the views and wonderful fresh air.
Beautiful beach with fantastic views without the crowds
Great setting for a range of activities and wonderful walking environment
Great spot, rugged and stunning. Beautiful waterfall. Lots of bikes on the beach but they were really considerate.
Great beach, wonderful views, lots of waves and can be dangerous but is patrolled. Great for long walks. The only thing I really do not like here is that vehicles can drive on the beach and the odd one driving up and down would be OK but on numerous occasions we have had loud motorbikes and cars messing around and it does spoil it.
Karioitahi Beach lives up to the reputation of a typical NZ west coast - long stretches of black sand, windswept cliffs, large dunes and sometimes dangerous seas. Swim here only when it is patrolled by the wonderful surf life guards - they are there for a good reason. Fantastic surfing, sunsets and empty sands are here for everyone to enjoy. Walk north or south along from the main car park area to find a secluded area, but keep an eye out for vehicles as it is a public road, and watch your step as there is also vulnerable birdlife among the dunes. Very popular place for family picnics, horse riding, dog walking and generally getting some sand between your toes.
