Hotel Baeren is quite unlike anywhere we have stayed in before. The building is one of the most beautiful in Meersburg and dates from the 12th century I believe.
The location is excellent; it is only a two minute walk from the bus stop Meersburg Kirche. The hotel is also very walkable from the lake front and car ferry but be warned that you have to walk up a very steep hill to reach the hotel.
There is no lift as is to be expected in such an old hotel. Our rooms were beautifully decorated with fabulous green wardrobes. The beds were comfortable, albeit the pillows were a bit soft. The bathroom was fine however the only shower gel supplied was two tiny bottles which were not replaced each day! We had to ask twice for new ones.
The breakfast room was very tastefully decorated in the traditional German style and the lady who manages the breakfast was very nice. The food selection while good quality was slightly limited. A better selection of breads and some kind of fruit salad would make a big difference.
Also you cannot pay by card which meant that we had to withdraw a large sum of cash.
I highly recommend Gasthof zum Baeren if you want a historic German hotel experience.More
