What a delightful hotel in lovely Meersburg. Spacious charming room. excellent suppers and excellent included breakfast. Personnel very friendly and helpful, and above all Innkeeper Michael Gilowski, who has a wealth of knowledge about Meersburg and local history. Greqt location as well. And prices are low. A memorable stay indeed

Having decided to revisit Konstanz after a 35 year abscence
I looked around for a good hotel/B&B in the locality
Gasthof Zum Baren seemed to fit the bill on all counts.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner (Michael)who was very pleasant and extremely helpful
We had reserved parking ahead of arrival with the Hotel and despite the rain coming down Michael walked up the road to show us the garages (100m away up the hill)
Michael booked us in chatted about his time in the UK as he carried his chef training at the Hilton and explained what their is to see in the town.
The room was pleasant and airy and all staff we saw very polite and helpful
We ate in the Hotel restaurant the following evening early as the night before it was full @ 1800hs and we checked back twice before eating elsewhere.
It was worth the wait as the food was very very good we both opted for the set menu's of the day and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity.
Hat off to the Chef it was the best food we have eaten in Germany and we have been going their for the last seven years and have a house there as well so we know German food very well.
All in all if you want a non fussy or pretentious hotel stay not all glass and chrome hotel /B&B to stay in smack in the centre of Town you can not go wrong with Gasthof Zum Baren.
Highly Recommended

Room Tip: Room 17 is facing a small square and is fairly quiet except on bin collection day when the recycle lorry arrives around 0630hrs !!

We were traveling with 2 other couples through Switzerland and Germany and this was one of our favorite places. I walked into the pedestrian only zone to find out where to park and was met at the front desk but a lovely woman who spoke little English but was so helpful. She came out, moved the post so we could drive in to unload our luggage, helped us carry luggage up and showed my husband where to park. There is no elevator since the hotel is 800 years old but that only added to the ambiance. Our room was on the top floor in the tower and was incredible. We could look out the window to see the winding streets. The town itself is so quaint. The cobblestone streets lead down to Lake Constance. The shops are good and have great prices - best we found anywhere. The castle tour was awesome.
The owner/chef, Michael Gilowsky was great - not only was the meal wonderful, but he gave us a map and made great recommendations on places to stop on the next leg of our journey.
Wish we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: We were in room 23 - top floor tower room - wonderful views and large room.

The rooms are charmingly plain and simple, clean, and a good size. The price is right; the location absolutely the best. Additional pluses: the chef/owner is a delight, and will insure a happy stay. The restaurant is great, amazing food and very reasonable pricing. And the town of Meersburg is fairy tale pretty.

This hotel is really just average but the location is wonderful and worth the stay. Clean, good breakfast but not much decoration on the walls. Room was a bit on the small side but was quiet and very clean.

Room Tip: Chose a lakeroom view.
