The boat tour of Rhine Valley gave us an opportunity to explore the river, the small historic villages, and the mighty medieval castles—more castles than anywhere else in the world. It runs from southeastern Swiss Alps through Germany and eventually flows into the North Sea coast in the Netherlands covering about 1,233 km. It is a major European river carrying more traffic than any other river in the world. Rüdesheim is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, and one of the best ports to depart from on Rhine River pleasure boat cruises. The river cruise took us to some of the area’s most popular sites and attractions, like the Lorelei rock, a massive granite rock that rises 433 feet above the river, and the Niederwalddenkmal, a monument located in the Niederwald landscape park that was built in the 1870s to commemorate the unification of Germany. The trip also helped us in learning about the history of the region. The distinct scenery of the river valley was captivating.
