One day trip you will never forget! Amazing views of all the castles along the river going up one side back down the other. Great places to get lunch before you board the boat. Lots of little gift shops as well.

The river cruise on the Travelmarvel Jewel was amazing from start to finish. Starting with the night time cruise down the Danube in Budapest with all the buildings illuminated.

The ship was comfortable and had everything you needed. The staff were outstanding and went out their way too make our trip more enjoyable. The company's attention to detail was impressive. Our cabin was kept spotless.

Our Cruise Director, Stuart, was first class. Knowledgeable, efficient, and approachable. And he almost got my wife to knit him a scarf!

The tours off the ship were really well organised and all had very knowledgable and entertaining English-speaking guides. Most tours were included in the price of the cruise - which was refreshing!

The food on board the ship was first class. An excellent choice at all mealtimes with inclusive wine, soft drinks and beer at lunch and dinner which was a real bonus. The wines varied each day and were good quality. Bottled water was supplied in our cabin's fridge each day.

The entertainment was not the type you get on an ocean cruise but very enjoyable nevertheless.

Travelmarvel are an Australian company, so the majority of passengers were from Oz. On our cruise there were just six of us from the UK. Our friends from down under were all a great bunch - thank you we so enjoyed your company! We wouldn't hesitate to travel with Travelmarvel again.

The service started bad and got worse.
There were 3 river boats moored, none with any info of which one was ours, so we went to the ticket office to find out, the girl behind the counter told us where to go but she didn't really seem that bothered about it.

When we got on board a full boat, only 2 members looking after the restaurant and 2 for the bistro/bar.
We eventually got a seat in the restaurant area, 40 mins before we arrived at konigswinter. Our waitress then looked at us and saw the plates that were left over from the previous diners and ignored us. We did get served by the waiter looking after the other section (after we flagged him down, he said we weren't in his section. He came back 10mins later and asked if we'd managed to order our food and then took our order when we said we hadn't). Food was ok, but it's not expensive (you get what you pay for in that respect). They were understaffed, I understand that, but our waitress was deliberately ignoring us because we weren't german, as she seemed to be able to flitter around to every other table but ours. There isn't much info available and asking staff for info is like talking to a wall.

Konigswinter is a very beautiful place, go see the town and the castle. At the very top of the castle tram line is just an amazing view with a restaurant. If you want to see the "castle" (I would call it a stately home) get off at the half way tram stop.

Now the return boat journey.
Even worse, the locals seem to reserve the tables when there aren't any signs, when you speak to them about it they go and grab a sign and place one on the table themselves. You speak to the staff, they just say it's reserved because them don't want to get involved, I asked the waiter if there were any tables that weren't reserved and he just walked away. It seems the staff just don't seem to care if you don't speak German.

If you are going to use this company, make sure it's a hot day, go on the upper deck and stick to the bar and bring your own food.

Also there was no commentary apart from letting your know you were approaching one of the many stops on route.

Otherwise avoid avoid avoid and drive or take the train, that way you actually get time to spend in
Konigswinter, not the 1hr we got including waiting to get back on the boat.

We had planned this out ahead of time as part of our car vacation in Europe. We boarded the boat at Oberwesel and bought the ticket that day from the ticket office at the dock. We were a bit early so we were able to walk around the quaint little town of Oberwesel. Got on the boat at 3:35 PM (be sure you are ready to get on and off at your stop as they move quickly!). We then went up river for 2 hours and got off at Rhems. A 5 minute stroll to the train station to catch the 6:29 train back to Oberwesel. Used a ticket machine with no problem. We had time to walk around the charming little town of Rhems. Got on the train, the conductor checked our tickets no problems. Got back to Oberwesel at 7:02 PM. Went all according to plan! The boat ride was just right. 2 hours, saw the Lorelei, some castles and quaint little towns. I would not do this round trip just too long.

Just home from our first river cruise. Amsterdam down the Rhine to Rudesheim and back. Sailed for 8 days on CroisiEurope Gerard Schmitter french balcony room on third deck. Ship was very nice, clean, drinks flowing and excellent food. Note that there is a set menu for lunch and dinner which you need to let them know if you don't care for. But, food was never out there and even though I am a picky eater, the only meal I ate around was the Cod one evening. With three course lunch and then four course dinners, its easy to miss one entree. Breakfast is a buffet. But our group was pleased with food overall. Some Americans may want entree selection so if that required choose a different line. We had duck, rabbit, venison steak, veal, cod, chicken cordon blu, pork filet and beef twice with tips and roasted all with gourmet veggies and deserts. I left at 169 lbs and returned home at 175! Very relaxing though not like ocean cruises as port time is much shorter and we would have loved more time in Cologne and Rudesheim. Same shore excursions as Viking as we tagged their ship at each port and excursion. Rooms very clean but small bathrooms, RV size. 140 sq ft rooms. Only two English speaking TV channels but didn't spend much time in the room actually. Drinks all free unless wanted French wines or French champagne. US champagne, i.e. Sparkling wine to them, was free as were mixed drinks, beer and wines. Castles on the Rhine were very special to see. Scenery awesome. You need a zoom for best shots. My Sony DSC-350 point and shoot 500mm zoom was perfect. Never pushed it out all the way. Ended too soon. Great value for the price. 44 English speaking guests out of about 160, so excursions were covered for Americans. Very quick check in and well organized. Ladies brought our bags to our rooms like a fine hotel. That crew works!!!
