Bamberg lies on several hills and can thus be compared to Rome, also for certain historical reasons. It is a city where you will never feel bored because of the many activities you can go in for there. I started just strolling around without a real destination. This was best because thus I discovered a lot of interesting things without any pressure of time. Some unusual view might lie in store for you around the corner. There is the River Main with the barges on it. There is the shopping area. There are Baroque houses. There is Bamberg Cathedral. In its neighbourhood you can sit in the rose garden of the Residence and have a coffee, enjoy the smell of the flowers or simply enjoy the view of Michelsberg. If you want to walk up there, do not take the main road but one of the little by streets, where you can discover very old little houses and many idyllic spots. From Michelsberg, the beautiful Franconian landscape around Bamberg can be seen. After such a tour you can turn to one of the inns or cafes and relax.
When in Bamberg, do not miss Banz Castle and the Basilica Church of Vierzehnheiligen (direction: Lichtenfels).

Our son recommended we make the climb up to Alstadt and we are so happy we made the effort. The building is quite amazing and the views are incredible. You can drive if you aren't up to the climb, but you should see the spot if in Bamberg.

The Bamberg Altstadt is a centre of imperial and episcopal power for almost a thousand years, and often referred to as the Rome of Franconia, the city Bamberg stands on seven hills, the city old town comprises three historical districts – the episcopal town, the island town and the market gardener's town, very nice city ❤️
