Family holiday

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Feb 2020
We stayed at the hotel as a family with young children. Good hotel overall however we did have a few issues with our room which we raised on arrival but unfortunately were not fixed during our stay. Dinner is a set 3 course menu with just the one option of each starter, main & dessert which was quite disappointing! Children menu also one option each. If you have a fussy child like we do, you end up eating out most evenings as we did. Good selection of restaurants & pizzeria’s within walking distance. Staff were friendly and the manager did listen to our grumbles but it’s up to Langley to make some changes. More food options please! Ski & Boot hire very efficient and cheap! Free Shuttle bus stops just across the road and it is every hour takes you around the resort. Alpe D’Huez is a great resort! Would definitely go back!

First time here and would consider going back.
Staff were excellent and always helped with any questions. The hotel is ideally situated and about a 2-3 minute walk to the nearest chair lift. Lots of good runs for all abilities. Bit pricy in the restaurants though.
Rooms were very clean with lots of storage space and the shower was good as well. Rooms were cleaned every day, however the maid decided to take all our bottles of water one day-no idea why!
This is a no smoking hotel, including on the balconies (great views), however the people in the next room continually smoked which came into our room (we had a 2 year old with us) so we mentioned it to the lady on the desk who immediately dealt with it and the smoking stopped from then on - thank you! (An expensive cigarette- €150 fine!).
The lounge/bar is nice, lots of comfy chairs. Drinks are expensive.€6 for a beer, €11 for a wine, however make sure you ask for the house wine which is only €5. The barman won’t tell you this which is a bit naughty.
Child care with Crystal was very good. They were very attentive with our toddler and made sure he was happy and had a nap when he needed one. They took the kids out into the snow at least once a day and always replied to our texts very quickly.
Breakfasts for me were a let down, the only hot items are beans, boiled and scrambled eggs with either bacon or sausages on alternative days.
The evening meals were mostly good, with beef fillet, duck and lamb shank being the best. Well presented meals rather than large portions. Could do with more on the plate and a salad bar after a hard days skiing.
The hotel provide babysitting for older children and this was taken up by some of the Scandinavian parents. However there was one young chap looking after about 8 tearaways, which caused chaos in the dining room even though the parents were sitting in the same dining room!! The kids were jumping and running around and we complained to the staff, however after dinner the kids were running all over the place, they smashed a lamp, threw pop corn all over and were running up and down the corridors and in and out the boot room. The babysitter clearly couldn’t control them and the parents did nothing to stop the carnage. This would be the one thing that would make me reconsider going back to this hotel. Other than this I would recommend staying here.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to review us and your stay with us.

We're happy you had a good experience with us in general at the hotel and with the service provided by the staff.

Regarding the bar we have different type of beverages and drinks and also menus so we are always willing to help out to find the best drink for the guest. The preferences differ from person to person but we are always keen to help out for the best possible experience.

We are a family oriented hotel and we like to see kids having fun as well, even though it should disturb other guests. This has been and will be followed when it occurs.

Hope we will see you back at the hotel another time!

The hotel is ideally placed with spectacular views of the mountains. A 5 minute downhill walk to get on the nearest lift and a 5 minute downhill walk after ski out so it's great. Rooms are spacious, modern and serviced every day, the staff are all really friendly and helpful. There is a bar and lounge with a pool table and a balcony at the back which is south facing and amazing views. Food is good and a buffet breakfast sets you up for the day. This gets a big thumbs up from me. Only one suggestion would be for a choice of food for the evening meal. I would absolutely book here again. It's great.

Hello,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay with us at the hotel.
It help us and also other potential guests when looking for a stay in Alpe d'Huez and also our hotel in particular.

We really do like our bar and lounge at the hotel, and especially on Tuesdays when we have our music quiz!

We have changed the option of food for the evenings a bit due to feedback, so thank you.

Looking forward to welcome you at the hotel again!

Like other travellers, I have noted good and less good points:

GOOD
great rooms, clean with a nice shower and plenty of storage.
Quiet at night
Staff speak good English and are helpful and friendly
Food is tasty and interesting
Nice children’s menu

IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED
Corridor carpets dirty on level 1
Downstairs toilet by crèche very dirty with some brown marks on the wall!
The food is often cold and the main course portions are fairly small
It would be lovely to have more vegetables
The evening meal service takes a long time - nearly an hour between starter and main course
It would be nice if the children’s dessert was not ice cream every night
Hotel would benefit from an experienced manager as it sometimes feels like there are only students working here - I.e. lack of attention to detail and cold food

I think these things can be fixed so would be happy to come here again.

We are just back after a weeklong family holiday. I can not fault the place and must complement the superb staff in all areas of the hotel. They were all extremely helpful, welcoming and added to our holiday experience.
The dining room has lovely views of the mountains. The breakfast was of good quality and very enjoyable each morning. The 3 course set dinner in the evening was excellent. We had duck, cod, fillet steak, trout etc. the kids were given a different course each evening but unfortunately our young kids did not like quite a few of the options. On those occasions the lovely waitress was able to organize something for the kids. I do think that the kids menu could be reviewed a little but considering the adult menu was so good, I am slow to criticize at all.
The views from the bedrooms were lovely. The rooms are cleaned every day and while they may be small, they are perfectly laid out and very comfortable.
We were able to ski in and ski out every day by picking up the end of a red run bringing us to Grand Sure lift.it was our first time in Alpe DHuez resort and we had a great time.
This hotel may be a 3 star but it is a gem. We always go to a different ski resort each year but we will definitely be back here.

Travelled as a couple in March 2019 for a week of skiing in Alpe d'huez.
The hotel is located a 2 minute walk from the ski slopes, but would probably closer if there was more snow!

The staff all speak fluent English and can't do enough for you. We were very well looked after at meal times and in the bar - thank you all. Dinner was brilliant all week, better than expected and we enjoyed many of the different cocktails on offer.

Inside the hotel, there is a comfortable bar/ lounge area with a pool table, table football and a large fireplace. In the rooms: Beds aren't the biggest but are confortable enough. Shower is awesome and the view from the balcony even better. Hotel very clean and very good free WiFi throughout.

Would recommend and would stay again.

Stewart and Sarah.
