Basic but all you need for a ski holiday- I would return

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Jan 2025via mobile
We enjoyed our week at this hotel. There were positive and negatives , I will list them below;

Positives-
Always lovely and warm inside
Staff were friendly
Food was varied and very good- catered for vegetarians also
Equipment hire inside hotel
Lovely afternoon cakes after skiing
Nice chill area with fire
Near to a supermarket
Right next to auris and les bergers lifts
Not too noisy
Free wine with meals

Negatives-
Rooms were quite small
Location of hotel not good for families who have children attending ski school- it’s a fair walk carrying skis.
This location is not ski in
No hairdryers or kettles in rooms

The hotel in my opinion is basic but rooms were cleaned daily, staff were friendly and the areas to sit in hotel are nice. Food was good and there is everything you need to enjoy your holiday.

We got here LATE (10.30pm - Sat 21st) We go to our room, the Key don’t work, also we had a joining door with the room next door which wasn’t locked so had to go back down to reception to get the key working and for the joining door to be locked. Then also the Safe needed a key, why not give us the Safe Key when you registered our room? We asked about food and there was “salad” left that looked like it had been left there all evening…. No bread or anything to even make anything even tho we asked!

We were advised that Breakfast in the restaurant was 7am – 9am/9.30am

Sunday 22nd – We woke about 8am, headed down to breakfast. It looked like the place had been ram-sacked and there was hardly any food there. Yet we were advised breakfast service was until 9/9.30am.

We had to ask for bread (again), there was 1 toaster with 4 toasting slots, you had to boil your own eggs but people would steal yours if you didn’t stand there guarding them for the full 8 mins. Fried eggs were not cooked and slimy on top and queues out the door. Hotel staff (plenty of them) didn’t seem to want to clear the tables, walked past plenty of them with nothing in their hands just wondering around. We cleared a table and had some toast with the scraps of bread off cuts that was left. Partner went for some Granola and there was no milk, had to ask for that and again that seemed like a massive effort by the staff..
All the pastry’s gone yet we paid for Half Board and by 8am all the food was gone and nothing else was being put out….

At this point we just knew this holiday was destined to be a disaster and we were already dreading the evening food service if the breakfast one was anything to go by!

The next day (Monday 23rd) we headed to breakfast, again around the same time (8am) and again, hardly any food left, tables had used plates and cups all over, staff still wondering around but not clearing tables, I literally couldn’t believe it, when we tried to ask for more bread to be put out, or a pastry the staff didn’t understand us either and this became quickly frustrating that we had to ASK for more food at 8am when Breakfast service was 7-9.30am and that we had paid quite a lot for this holiday for our Christmas Present, to go half board and pretty much not get any breakfast two days running was unreal…

Again this was the same for the evening, food was terrible and choice was poor and anything beyond 7.30pm there was hardly anything left and they stopped putting food out!

Xmas Eve – was probably the best food evening, we actually had a form of meat (beef) and veg which was nice and this was the ONLY day the food was good and they had plenty of it right up until the close of service!

Then back to the usual sh*t on Xmas Day where you think it would be better given its Christmas Day, breakfast and evening meals couldn’t believe it, it was diabolical and back to having hardly any of it and scrapping around for anything, bread, maybe some butter, a yoghurt….. anything!!!!

Plates - well, the smallest plates i’ve ever seen! (See pic, also pic of toaster section when it did have bread, but only has 4 slot toaster to your 100+ people) cheese - if you JUST WANT to eat cheese then this hotel is for you.

We ended up eating out 4 nights in the end because there was never any food left and what food there was, was terrible it was a mix of scraps, we spent approx. £250 on meals out

Check Out Day Sat 28th – Crystal Welcome Letter – CLEARLY states check out 10am. (Attached in my pics i loaded!)

We went out the night before going home for food and drinks given it was our last night and knowing how sh*t the evening meal and breakfast was going to be we decided to have a lie in til 9ish, pack then check out at 10am (latest possible) and go get breakfast somewhere else before our pick up at 12:50.

9am…Hotel Service Staff (cleaners) came busting in our room, clearly, they were surprised to see us and we see them... They said ‘service?’. We said NO. they left.
Then 10 mins later they came back in, ‘service?’….. we again said NO. They hardly spoke any English. We continued to pack. Then again, 10 mins alter, ‘Service?’….. at this point I was now fuming as I was trying to pack and get changed ready to go home and couldn’t understand why they kept coming in every 10 mins since 9am!

Went to reception about 9.40am as I was now pissed off with the staff coming in our room when check out wasn’t until 10am (according to Crystal Welcome letter). The reception lady said check out was 9am…… I said, ‘No it’s not according to this letter’, showed her the letter and she said it was incorrect. Who is wrong? The Hotel? Or Crystal? Either way between you both, my holiday was a shambles due to the lack of help, communication, incorrect and inconsistent information provided to me as a holidaymaker.

I’ll never return to MMV hotels (as they are a chain) again!

Outdoor heated pool - was cold!

Disgusting service, booked a holiday from Australia for our honeymoon months ago and now this accommodation has cancelled our booking due to being greedy and selling out for a privatised event, cancelling all their bookings leaving people stranded. absolutely disgusting behaviour from this company, can never trust them.

Did we stay at the same hotel as the naysayers?
We were here 9th-16th March 2024. Over the years we have stayed at loads of hotels in ski resorts and thought this one was very good.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was really good, the menu varied, with plenty of choice (including a raclette one night), excellent desserts, salads and soups. We had no problems finding a table at breakfast or dinner even though the hotel was full.
The room size was fine, although we did have a third bed in our room, so it may have been slightly bigger than a standard double. Rooms were cleaned daily, and beds made, with 2 changes of towels in the week.
The swimming pool was a highlight, a real treat after skiing all day, not too cold, comparable in temperature to most outdoor pools.
We were 100% satisfied and will definitely return.

Room tip: If you need to access your skis before 8.30am don't leave them in the ski room as you can only access them when the ski shop opens at 8.30.

We attended Tomorrowland music festival on March 2024 and hands down, this is one of the worst traveling experience I have ever had.

The room is super small - that’s understandable, the food - not great, that’s my personal opinion but not having basic services like cleaning the room every day (especially for the price that we paid), no clean towels on a daily basis, seems that this hotel needs some serious sterilization.

Food ran out at least twice during the week, no vegetables, bar accepts cash only. I am not sure why it’s even called an hotel, why it is so expensive and perhaps they should mention that guest need to bring their own towels.

It’s more like q hostel. Stay away.

Les Bergers is ok if you are there for the skiing and looking for basic accommodation and food with a short walk to the first lifts. The rooms are very small and just about ok for two people. Cleaning could have been better. The public areas and bar did not have much character. The bar only opened in the late afternoon which was disappointing because there is a nice sun terrace, albeit overlooking the road. Reception is only open during the day. There was not enough snow near the hotel to test the claim that you can ski in/out, but the route from the boot room to the nearest lift did not look suitable. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Room tip: The Cognet Quarter at the other end of the village has a more traditional alpine feel with low rise wooden buildings and more shops and bars
