Le Bistrot d'Eglise felt like a small oasis of calm just beyond the throngs pushing through the tourist traps of Saintes-Maries. Maybe the fact it's on the church square helps, but it's also the atmosphere of unhurried calm created by the owner.
We had a veggie salad platter - beautifully put together and very filling - and a swordfish steak. At €19 this was at the upper end of the price range, but fully justified by its size and perfect preparation.
The lemon crumble provided a very tangy dessert. I did wonder it it would work better with vanilla ice cream rather than (as served) lemon sorbet, and on chatting with the owner it seemed he had the same thought. Worth another visit just to try a different combination!
