Do not be swayed by the Sofitel name drop in this hotels lengthy title or the Luxury nautical theme which are distraction tactics to mask a poor hard product. This is a massively overpriced property. The setting is nice enough in the pines but it's well back from the beach and the lake in between makes a walk to the shore an ordeal plus you are miles away from the town. In short the location is the worst of both worlds. The outdoor sandpit pool is a nice touch but simply serves to highlight the lack of beach access that the property sells so heavily on.

The rooms - oh dear - they are small, cramped and poorly designed. We stayed in a Superior sea view room with a balcony. Wall sockets feel as though they are about to fall off when unplugging anything. A tiny box toilet - then a bathroom just about big enough for one, with slatted shutters which open onto the bedroom ( who thought of this? If you go to the toilet at night - the bedroom is lit up like a Christmas Tree ). Did I mention this Hotel was a gimmick fest?

The indoor pool is adequate but not as impressive as the photos.

The staff are fine if a little detached.

Would I recommend the Cote Ouest Hotel Thalasso & Spa les Sables d'Olonne MGallery Collection...? Absolutely not, it has some nice quirks and a few clever touches but it's expensive at half the price.

Room tip: Choose another hotel

Cote Oueste Hotel is a nautical theme resort in a very pleasant costal region of France. My room was very livable with a comfortable bed and a sitting area that could accommodate up to 6 people. There was also a balcony with outdoor seating. I opted for a less expensive pine forest view room, but the balconies on the sea side of the property would be a great place to enjoy wine while watching the sunset. The bath area was modern and functional. The heating and cooling system was very responsive and easy to operate. The downside of my room was that it was not business traveler friendly. A small table had to serve as a de facto desk, and power cords had to be stretched across traffic areas. Restaurant was okay, but breakfast fare was the same day after day. There are, however, at least two other nearby dining establishments to provide variety.

Room tip: If you like the ocean you may want to pay the small premium for a sea view room or suite.

Very comfortable hotel with good friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant choice rather lets it down for a longish stay as the choice was rather limited. The daily Plat du jour was never very interesting or rather expensive
