If you're wanting to go to Mont Saint Michel and stay overnight, I highly recommend staying in a hotel on the actual island. It's a once-in-a-lifetime, unique place to be. Given the logistics of this place, I'm impressed any hotel can manage to do as well as LaVielle Auberge did. Our room was away from the main hotel---there are rooms in another building and the receptionist walked us there. The room was clean and updated (considering the age of the whole place). Bathroom was very small, but it was fine, just don't expect spacious. If you're a person of size there may be challenges, just being truthful. They provided very little soap and no shampoo, etc. , not a crisis but an observation. The window overlooked an area with many people and lots of noise, but I think that's the nature of the setting----echoing due to structure. The whole island is basically lots of steps, so if you have any problem climbing steps, this may not be the place for you. Hauling a suitcase up many stairs to our room worked for us, but could be prohibitive for some people. The staff at the front desk tried, but weren't great at answering questions accurately. They were very friendly and accommodating otherwise. Bring earplugs---no matter where you stay, the seagulls are alive and well 24/7 and happy to continue talking to each other! We found it humorous and decided it was an entertaining phenomenon.

Room Tip: see if you can get a room that faces the bay

Not many places in the world where you can stay in a 1,000 year old building. Had a place with a balcony and it was magical. It does get a little loud in the morning and it has a ton of steps, but if you can overlook this, it is worth every penny and more.

My husband and I really wanted to spend one night on the island itself, even though the hotels there are rather expensive. Luckily we found this somewhat more affordable option to stay at the hotel annex. It was a separate little room located in a different street than the main hotel. The room itself was tiny and very basic. However, it was clean and the bathroom had been recently remodeled. It fit our needs just fine and allowed us to stay on the island for much cheaper than the other hotels.
As a word of warning, the seagulls are very loud and they never go to sleep, so pack some ear plugs :)

The room is clean and comfortable.
The balcony with breathtaking views. Enjoy it.
You feel with the nature and the mountain as a living unit.
While tourists pass by unseen, you sometimes feels like a lord of the castle with the room key.

Especially in the morning and in the evening, the terrace is a special place to stay.
For coffee, cider or wine.

You can decide from there, when to follow the invitation, to discover the empty streets, in the morning until 10:00 clock and evening from 18:00 clock.

It is cleaned every day!

We reserved a room overlooking the bay - it was phenomenal! We had a long climb, but it was worth it! Our room had sliding glass doors with a small balcony. There was a window box of flowers and a commanding view of the bay with lots of birds who were nesting. I highly recommend at least an overnight stay to experience the tranquility and special place that has been here since ancient times. To explore the ramparts, church, abbey, and medieval streets is a unique experience.

Room Tip: A view of the bay costs a little more but is worth it.
