If I had written this review two hours after arriving, I would have rated it five stars. Fortunately I didn’t, and this explains why.
Using it as a half-way stop on a car journey from London back to Spain.
Very conveniently situated close to the motorway, easy to find, and good parking right by the hotel entrance.
I had checked in online so took only a few seconds to actually check in and get my key, from a very pleasant guy on the front desk. I got exactly the room I asked for.
Fifteen minutes late, same gentleman served me a pint of beer and asked if I would like to charge it to my room, which I did (relevant for what happened later).
About 7.30, after sorting some emails, I went downstairs to order a plate of cold meats and cheeses to bring back to my room, as I had been advised was possible earlier.
I kid you not. I sat as the only customer at a long bar. I sat there for ten minutes, during which time none of the five, totally disorganised staff behind the bar even acknowledged my presence. One finally couldn’t not avoid my eye contact, and I said, in French, “ I think I must be invisible” (no reaction). I asked her for an order of a meat platter and a beer, which she rapidly rang up and presented me with the bill. I said I would charge it to my room (as I had done earlier), and she simply said (in French) “not possible”. She, and none of her colleagues, could explain to me why this had been possible earlier, but not now. Frustrated as hell, I told them to cancel the whole order. No-one took charge of the situation, offered an explanation or an apology, and I just went back to my room hungry and annoyed. It appeared clear to me that none of the staff had a clue about anything, least of all customer service. Pity, because otherwise I think the location and the convenience of the hotel are great.
