“Heaven in a gite!”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our second stay in Vine Cottage and enjoyed it even more than last year if that's possible. The family just made us feel so welcome and it was just like coming home. The new boules pitch was a great success and evening matches with a (few) glass of wine were amazing. Thank you so much Nik, Jas, Julie and Frank for a fabulous three weeks.

“A home from home experience in the heart of the Dordogne region”
Reviewed 16 October 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Vine cottage is a real home from home experience in the heart of the Dordogne region close to wonderful Sarlat by car. The property was exactly as described on the website and Nicola provided easy to follow directions from the airport. The gite is set in gorgeous countryside with private forest walking trails on the doorstep. We had a garden to sit out in and a pool to dip in if we felt like it. The gite is spacious with generous living room, bedroom and bathroom (the shower has to be the best I've tried). Everything that we could have asked for was provided including satellite TV, washing machine, huge fridge and loads of kitchen utensils and reading material. Nicola and her family were around the corner if we needed them but they left us to our own devices apart from giving us some pointers on the locality and leaving a tasy welcome pack. It was a pleasure to come back to Vine Cottage after a day exploring the Dordogne region and relax on the comfy sofa and catch up with things back home - we could even pick up RTE Radio. I would certainly recommend Vine Cottage to anyone who wants to get away to the historic Sarlat area and unwind with all the mod cons from home.

“Great property, wonderful location, lovely hosts”
Reviewed 23 August 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent a little over a week in Vine Cottage and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The property is superbly located for the sights of the Dordogne Valley, and the cottage itself is exceptional.

We flew to Bordeaux and collected a hire car, then - using the simple directions provided Nicola - made our way to Sarlat, and then on to Vine Cottage itself. The journey took just over two hours.

Despite arriving late (about 2330) Nicola was there to welcome us. She had also provided a very thoughtful welcome hamper of delicious French food (and a bottle of wine!) that were more than welcome after our drive.

The flat was very clean and tidy, and was also of very high quality. Everything was in very good condition and decorated to a superb standard. The kitchen was well equipped, the lounge area was comfortable and the bedroom was relaxing. Everything we could have possibly required was supplied (including an iron & board, hair dryer and (best of all) a powerful fan). The bathroom was also well kitted-out with a very good shower. Water was always hot.

The property had its own garden (with BBQ) that allowed for private dining, but also opened up onto a larger piece of property belonging to the owners which offered access to woodland to walk in and the beautiful swimming pool area.

Directions and information were provided in a helpful information pack that allowed us to find nearby amenities and sights. A bakery and a supermarket were both a short drive away.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to stay in the Dordogne, I couldn't recommend Vine Cottage highly enough. Sarlat is a few minutes away by car or bike, Castelnaud/Beynac are both about 30 minutes, Domme - about 35 minutes. All lovely and worth a visit. Nicola and her family were very welcoming, but never overbearing. They were consistently friendly and went out of their way to be helpful and informative. I wouldn't hesitate to rebook here if returning to the area.

“Great place to relax and explore the area”

Had a brilliant stay here for a week. We did not have a car but were met at the train station by the owners (who are always around to help if you have any questions or need advice)
Vine cottage has a great garden area that is separate from the acres of forest land that you can also walk around. The pool was lovely, good length and nice loungers around it. About a 1 minute walk from front door to pool!
The gite was very clean and well equipped, the bbq and wifi are also great additions.
We used the bikes that can be rented - very good bikes (probably the best rental bikes we have ever used). Vine cottage is about a 10 minute cycle to the traffic free bike path on the old railway which takes you down to the Dordogne. It is on top of a hill but we were given 3 routes to get back (quickest, flattest and alternative) - we managed the flattest and alternative climbs back (didnt manage the quickest as this was the steepest but meant you could cycle into Sarlat in 20 minutes!)
Cant recommend vine cottage enough - lovely property, pool and owners. Good location that meant we were able to get around just using bikes.
