This is one of those places that really deserves a visit when it comes to visit Piedmont region. The food was just incredibly delicious, with an amazing meet tartare (called "Tris di carne" in italian) as starter and home made "pasta" like ravioli or "agnolotti" on top of the list.

The service incredibly attentive, every little detail was taken care of and the price was fair. Really good value for money. Don't forget to combine traditional dishes with a very good red wine Piedmont can offer, like Nebbiolo or Barolo.

The surrounding countryside is very interesting with gentle hills and perfect for a walk around especially after lunch.

We'll be back!!

My husband and I were on a cycling trip in Italy and the bicycle tour company recommended this restaurant. It was the first one we tried in Terruggia. Mind you, Terruggia is not a very big place. But even so, this restaurant wasn't particularly easy to find. The restaurant had a sign but the front porch light was off and we thought it was closed because the door was locked. (Turns out, they keep the lights off to keep the bugs away.) We hadn't called ahead but there was very little tourist traffic so we figured we wouldn't have trouble getting a table. A gentleman taking out his garbage nearby saw us looking befuddled and signaled for us to ring the bell. We did and a woman answered and told us to wait. She unlocked the door and let us in. The place was completely empty. My husband and I were a bit confused but she showed us downstairs and a man, who I believe was the chef, set our table and welcomed us. Thus beginning our evening's culinary adventure.

We sat down, ordered some local wine and each ordered from the fixed price menu. I had the vegetarian option at 30 euros, my husband had the regular menu at 35 euros. It was really quite a bargain considering all the food and the preparation. The food was regional and truly delicious. The service was leisurely but in a good way. The woman who served us spoke little English but enough for us to figure out what we wanted. This was clearly a family-run establishment. As far as I could tell, it was just the two of them who I assumed were husband and wife.

Eventually a much larger party came into the restaurant and the place got lively.

After the meal, both my husband and I remarked that it was a good thing we didn't just walk away because it was really a lovely and delicious meal. I love going to places that don't feel like giant tourist traps. This place was warm and clearly family-run. The food was lovingly prepared and just wonderful. This was a wonderful way to start our stay in Italy. Thanks to Cycle Italia for the recommendation!

We've dined at this little place many times over the years and taken guests there as well. Rarely has anyone been less than thrilled. Carlo and Antonella do a great job with a creative take on locally sourced ingredients. We almost always opt for the tasting menu and delight in old favorites and new tastes, along with great local wines.
