We walked up here on a very rainy day in August. Despite the bad weather it's still a magical place to visit...and also with a welcoming fire burning ! Both the architecture and view are amazing !

The Viewpoint was "World Building Of The Year" in 2011, and then it all "took off". The number of visitors has increased to 30.000 pro year. Despise the short season from June to October!

Since my first visit to the Viewpoint in 2012, there have been some improvements:

Toilets by the Viewpoint and by the Parking Lot. And more information.

This is a beautiful small viewpoint built by Snøhetta Architects (famous for the opera in Oslo among others) It is parking near Hjerkinn. 1,5 km easy walking with tables on the ground of the history of humans here for 9000 years. Upwards about 25 minutes. On the top it is the beautiful pavillion in wood and glass. And the views are terrific. You may also walk a little further up to top: Tverrfjellet. There were mines here , acturally until 1994. On the way down stray a little aside to a bunker-like structure. Here is some of the history of the mines.

I was drawn by the photograph of Viewpoint Snohetta on visitnorway.com so we decided to make a bit of a detour on our long drive day to check out this place. You have to walk up a gentle slope for about 20 minutes from the carpark to reach the viewpoint. Although the site marks this as wheelchair accessible, I had doubts about it as the path, though not difficult, was mostly gravel and with an incline.

Sadly we could not really enjoy the interior of the viewpoint as there was a big group of students having some sort of lesson in it. However the guide pointed us to some musk ox they spotted in a distance, which was nice.

Walk 1.5km from the car park up the mountain and you will reach the viewpoint. Our small group of friends did it on a day when the wind was blowing against us and it was quite a challenging walk to reach the look out. Its a beautiful wooden build craft in a very elegant and beautiful way and its worth the walk just to see the sculpture of the building. Once inside enjoy amazing views of Dovrefjell and if you have a pair of binoculars you are almost sure to see Musk Ox in the distance.
If you are lucky then its possible they could also be quite close by.
