Very helpful staff, large free parking in front of the hotel, perfect location for visiting the ancient sites around. Five minutes walk to the Solfatara volcano, which results in sulphur smell in the air most of the evenings but it's not unpleasant once one gets accustomed ;) Nice clean rooms, good buffet breakfast, friendly atmosphere.

The previous reviews mention the street noise and the fact that the parking lot in front of the room is used for noisy big rig truck parking, which is true. But Italy is a noisy place! But the room was big and clean, our balcony was huge with a stunning view of the bay, the buffett was nicer than many of the other hotels we stayed at, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I do reccomend this hotel.

You will get a lot of traffic noise at the front of this hotel (where the views are) – despite it being set back some 25m or so from the road by a forecourt. How another reviewer can say it's in "una zona tranquilla" is beyond me. The road is a main coastal route and is very busy every hour of the day, although there is some respite between very late at night and very early morning. You are on a hill, so traffic is either zooming down it or gunning the revs up it. The constant traffic made it unpleasant to sit out on the balcony. Closing the windows did reduce the noise substantially but meant you then relied on the feeble air conditioning (also somewhat noisy) for your comfort. We opted for the noise. A room at the back of the hotel would be quieter, but you will then be looking out of your window at a vertical wall of rock the height of the hotel, about 3 metres away. ie no view at all ( although a geologist might find it interesting). Didnt fancy that either.
We paid a small supplement for a “sea view”. Our first floor room (the Italian secondo piano) did provide a view towards the bay and a glimpse of the sea here and there, but the view was substantially obstructed by nearby trees and shrubs (see photo). You would need to be on the next floor (top) to get a decent view of the sea/bay.
During our stay , the forecourt was being used by a furniture removal firm to park its lorries, which did nothing to enhance the view. On day one there were three lorries, by the final fourth day there were seven, repeat, seven heavy goods vehicles on the forecourt that we had to weave our way around to get into the hotel. Unbelievable!

Finally, to cap it all, the restaurant was closed (no warning being given at the time of booking).

On the positive side, staff were friendly, the breakfast very decent (help yourself), the dining room very pleasant. The room and bed were both comfortable, the whole hotel was very clean, decorated to a high standard in contemporary style. There was some interesting art on the walls. The public areas were spacious. The sulphur smell others have mentioned was hardly noticable/non-existent – it probably varies with the wind direction – the solfatara is just behind the hotel.

Its about a 10 minute walk from the nearest train station: Naples 1.10 Euros single , takes 30mins). The bus stop is right outside the hotel: Naples, 1.10 euros single, every 30 mins, takes 35-45 mins.

We stayed at the Solfatara in mid August 2007. It is in Pozzuoli, about a 20 minute metro ride outside of Naples. This is a great hotel. The rooms are large (we are a family of 4). It is located on the side of the Solfatara volcano so there is a strong sulfur smell, but closing the windows reduces the smell to almost nothing. The front desk is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a balcony, a small fridge and very soft towels. From the front of the hotel you get a lovely view of the Gaeta Gulf. The town is a busy fishing port town. There is a small family run store approx. 2 blocks away and some resturants nearby. It is not the most centrally located hotel and requires some walking up hill to reach it, but if you don't want to (or can't afford) a hotel in Naples then this is a good alternative. It is a 1 euro, 20 minute train ride to Naples train station.

Stayed at the hotel four years ago when it was a 3 star hotel and it was OK, now the hotel has been upgrated to a four star hotel - which they do not live upto. However great view fm the rooms which have a balcony but there is a lot of noise from the street - hotel/rooms are clean but the outside needs to be shined up a bit - the breakfast could be a lot better - dry bread, lemonade instead of fresh juice, had to ask for cheese etc as the disches were empty. People in the reception speaks pour english but were helpfull. However feel the hotel should have sticked to the 3 stars.
