This hotel in a good area and close to the beach. The hotel itself is very outdated and need at least some facelift. Pool area is OK. Average rooms and bathrooms, but again need some remodeling. We don't recommend this hotel.

This is one of these "ratings don't cover enough ground" reviews, as--other than the pool--the facilities at Hotel D'Amato ranged from disappointing to average; yet, our experience was stellar. Hence the title: "troubled excellence."

So, if you are expecting a western four star facility..., forget-about-it. The rooms was quaint, but renovations are long overdue. The common areas, too, smacked of decades of inattention. All serviceable, but aging, and showing signs of wear.

Had we wanted a Hilton-like experience, though, we wouldn't have chosen Hotel D'Amato. Rather, we wanted an authentic middle class Italian vacation experience: a place friends and family have been returning to for generations. A place where staff hug clients, where the owner greets and earnestly inquires about you, where the dining room is overseen by an old pro who'll cook your eggs, if need be.

Other things you should know: the beach is close, getting into upper Peschici is easy, there's a market across the streets, and the cappuccinos are pretty damned good.

A bit old and out of date, if You dont happen to be into the 80s.

If you are used to western Europe level of service you will be disapointed, this is more Eastern Europe or the 70s

Really nice pool area, however, at times (a couple of hour per day) they play music really, really loud around the pool so loud that we had to leave. There is also 18 rooms facing the pool.

I got the impression they served yesterdays bread at the breakfast otherwise an ok breakfast

The room had a good size and the AC worked Really well

The room was cleaned properly.

In the evening they also played music in the garden (much too loud) which where supposed to be for the benefit of the guests but there was mostly only two or three guests dancing and six to eight from the staff.

The feeling was that the pool area and garden was there so that the staff had some where to hang out.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms that are located near the pool area

Booked this hotel on basis of rating and existence of Spa. We had spent previous few days exploring Puglia and were looking forward to a few days R'nR. There was no Spa. (There was one masseuse however) and although rooms were clean, they really really need to be modernised. No wifi in bedroom. Bathroom tiny. It all just felt really basic. Door to tiny terrace jammed on tiles. Pool area and other public spaces and facilities were fine but again really outdated. Quite close to beach but a real hike to the town which is elevated. Staff were just about helpful. We checked out after one night (booked three) as we booked hotel looking for a chill out and just couldn't relax. In fairness there was no massive fuss when we did this. I think the hotel is designed for older Italian groups. Peschici is a charming little place but in the heat it is quite a trek to get to - an informal shuttle would be welcome.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

My wife and I stayed here for one night visiting her relatives in the Gargano peninsula. The room had advertised a sea view which was true if you went out on the small terrace and rotated your head ninety degrees and were happy with a thin slice of a view. The rooms need some serious updating....including new black out shades ( our had perforations in them) furniture and bathroom basics ( our shower doors were broken). It is obvious that no one cares what the condition or state of repairs needs to be done. Would not recommend this hotel.
