This is a lovely gite in a great location with plenty to do or simply space to relax.
The owners are very helpful and keen to make sure everything is right for your stay and the facilities are excellent. We felt very welcome!
Our children particularly enjoyed walking and feeding the goats and hunting for chicken eggs in the morning! The pool is a pleasant addition to the property and is deep enough to swim in or just to float in if the weather is good.
There is only one shop in the immediate village which is quite limited but there are several decent supermarkets within 15 mins drive away and there are plenty of things to see and do within a relatively short drive, including several Chateaux, horse riding, and even a day out at the beach within approx 1hrs driving!!
Overall this is an excellent property for a very pleasant stay.
Since our last visit in August 2016, the pool is now heated and it's a very welcome way to relax on a warm afternoon. The pool is very safe for children with a few toys to keep them occupied as well.
There were more chickens and goats this time. The children really enjoyed feeding them, although the animals might be glad of a rest now that we have left!
We explored a bit more of the local area on our visit this time, there is a very nice floral garden at Cloumbiers , about 10 minutes drive away, which is well worth a visit. The nearby Fougeres forest has a number of well marked out circular walks. We also went to the chateau at Fougeres, which is huge and reasonably priced at 22 euros for a family ticket.
Good shopping within 15 minutes at Gorron and Ernee.
This is a great place for a relaxing holiday with plenty to do to keep active children amused. Angela and John are great hosts.
The gite is very well equipped, oven, microwave, washing machine etc, English TV channels, good WIFI access (free) and most important, the beds are very comfortable. There were some nice welcoming goodies when we arrived, bread, wine, pate and eggs.
Outside the back door there is a Patio area that looks across the grounds to the resident chickens, goats, rabbits and a duck, all of which seemed to enjoy the attentions of our 10 and 6 year olds. There is plenty more to do on site for children - swings, trampoline, table tennis and a small swimming pool, which has sun loungers etc. We can especially recommend the night sky which was full of bright shining stars, not something we see very often where we live.
Angela and John are excellent and welcoming hosts, but completely unobtrusive. They have a good knowledge of the local area having lived there for quite a while. Their teenage granddaughter also lives there and she was lovely with our youngsters.
Carellas is very quiet, there is one small shop which doubles as a bar. At a rough guess we thought that approx 10 cars per hour drive through the village. The nearby towns of Gorran and Ernee are both well worth visiting. They have good quality supermarkets and a good supply of independent shops and weekly markets. Slightly further afield Mayenne, Domfront and Fougeres are towns with interesting places to visit, and nice bars to sit in and watch the world go by.
We stayed for a week and went out for 3 to 4 hours each morning and spent the afternoons at the gite where the children played safely and we could get some quiet time. A very nice week!

Lovely gite with everything you could ask for. Angela and John were wonderful hosts - nothing was too much trouble. The area was a bit quiet but I think that was just the time of year. Would visit again.
What a super gite !!! The gite had everything that we needed. The welcome that we received was extremely warm and welcoming.
Cannot fault anything. John and and Angela were super hosts and granddaughter Selina was an absolute delight and a whizz at sorting out my iPad issues !.
We will definitely stay there again as we love the area and are house hunting in the Mayenne area and it is a great base to search from.
My only regret was not taking up on Angela's culinary skills, time and circumstances did not fit in with our schedule, although her homemade bread was really good, as were the eggs we had from her chickens.
My only criticism was that the weather wasn't wonderful , but I don't really feel that I can hold Angela and John accountable for that !
Have to say that the croissants from the village boulangerie are the best that I have ever had in France. And I have been to France quite a few times to different areas and have had 1or 2 croissants over the years!! Only problem there was that they sell out early, and by by early I mean 8.00 a.m
Thank you Angela & John for an enjoyable stay.
