Good, friendly, hotel with easy access to Venice Island

Review of Hotel Guidi
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 May 2018
This is a good, small, hotel that offers excellent value for money for those who are prepared to economise by not staying on Venice Island. The hotel is clean and the facilities are good, with two communal sitting areas, one outside and one semi-covered. Access to the island is quick and easy from a tram stop about 4 minutes away. The staff are friendly and helpful.

20 minute walk to train station, or take the bus. Tram stop to Venice just round the corner (10-minute ride).
Clean, comfortable rooms with ensuite, seems to provide a lot for a two star. Air conditioning for the summer. Just across the road from a canal.
Very helpful, friendly staff. Continental breakfast. Much better than the conference hotel just round the corner according to what my colleagues were saying and way way cheaper!

Guidi is a nice small and clean hotel. It is situated in Mestre and it takes 15 min to get to Venice by tram ticket cost 1.50€. Staff is friendly and especially we would like to say many thanks to Alex who was really helpful and attentive. Breakfast buffet is good. I would recommend this hotel for a short trip.

Check in at the hotel was quick and easy (reception closes at 2300). They gave us a small hand-drawn map, which was quite useful but not the best (thought we would have visited the Oriental restaurant marked on the map, but it had closed). Our room was at the back of the hotel and was quiet. There was a double bed with two bedside tables, a table with a small TV, a small fridge, a wardrobe (limited coat hangers), an en suite toilet, bidet and shower (all in a very small space), a sink outside the en suite with hair dryer.

The air conditioning and free WiFi worked well. There were a couple of power outlets above the bedside tables. There was a free electronic mosquito repellent plugged in with tablets provided.

Breakfast was good although the coffee machine broke down on one day. Hot drinks were brought to the table in place of this. There was a simple selection of bread, pastries, cereal, rolls, ham, cheese, yoghurts, etc.

There is a small supermarket (Cadoro) at the end of the road by the side of the hotel, about a five-minute walk away, which closes at 1930. The tram stop into Venice is further uo than the shop on the main road. The trams run frequently, take around 15 minutes to reach Venice and can be crowded. There are not many restaurants nearby, a couple on the way to the shop and a few around a ten-minute walk away along a main road, turn right from the hotel then left.

A word of warning about stamps: make sure you buy Post Italia stamps in Venice and NOT the special (expensive) ones from the GPS/Globe Postal Service that offer tracking from postcard outlets. There is nowhere in Mestre to post them so you will have to go back into the city for this and there are many reports on the Internet that these are unreliable anyway. We were not warned of this when we bought the stamps, of course. We ended up posting our postcards when we returned to the UK.

How to reach the hotel: We took the ATVO Airport Express bus number 1 to Mestre from the Airport (15 Euro return, about every 25 minutes) and got off at the first stop (the Via Forte Marghera stop), after about ten minutes. After getting off the bus, turn right on the same side as the stop and the hotel is a few minutes’ walk along the road. The return stop is on the opposite side of the road, although there is no obvious bus stop sign.

We would stay here again.

Located approximately 15mins away from Venice St.Lucia, Hotel Guidi can be a very good choice for the tourists during their stay in Venice. We were a family of four and we booked a quadruple room. This included a buffet breakfast.Reaching the hotel is quite easy from Venice St.Lucia, the best option is tram (Line T1) stop Sansovino which commutes every 10mins till very late night. Members in the reception were very helpful in providing information about Venice and about its point of interest. Since the hotel is almost within the residential areas of Venice Mestre, you always have a homely feeling. A supermarket is in the near vicnity and if you go towards the Venice Mestre Center, you have many restaurants to choose from. I felt quite nice about the hotel terrace as well, it served as an unusual open air common lounge for all tourists. We had a small fridge in the quadruple room, however not all rooms have the same facility.
Wireless was steady and worked fine during our stay. The bus stop is 40m away from the hotel, however, it is better to have proper information about the bus stop and the timings if you are opting a bus ride. Overall we had a very nice experience during our stay in Venice and I will recommend all my friends. If I make a trip to Venice again, I would certainly like to stay in Hotel Guidi.
(Secret tip for Indian Travellers): 12mins walk from the hotel and you have an Indian restaurant.

Room tip: Budget friendly clean safe hotel in Venice Mestre
