Nice hotel and easy to get to Venice

Review of Hotel Venezia
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Apr 2024
Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights, It is €35 from Marco Polo airport via taxi and the journey is around 15 minutes. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. The room was rather small as well as the shower / toilet room but the bed was comfortable. Because it is an old hotel the walls are paper thin and you can always hear when people are coming in and out of rooms and walking down the hall way and talking, I am a light sleeper so i didn't get as much sleep as i would have liked during our stay. The only thing i was disappointed with was the breakfast mainly because there was no hot food and not many options to choose from. In all honesty i wish i did not pay to have breakfast and just got it somewhere else. The hotel was less than a 5 minute walk to get to the tram and bus stop to get into Venice and reception helped with directions and you could buy day passes at the hotel. All in all i thought it was a nice hotel and perfect if you are staying to visit Venice. I would stay again but i would just not include breakfast. Also with the new rules to visit venice with the QR codes this hotel is in the catchment area and because you pay the tourist tax at the end of your stay you wont have to pay the €5 each a day to visit venice you just have to apply online for your QR code.

This was a nice hotel which was clean and tidy. The reception staff were friendly and helpful when asked for information. The breakfast was a good quality continental breakfast buffet. The room was small with a very small wet room as a bathroom which overall did the job we wanted and was clean.

Room tip: Local to Venice via tram/bus.

Easy to locate from tram stop. Very pleasant eloquently decorated reception area. Easy check in and allocated room on second floor.
Room was quite warm even with heating turned down low. Bathroom of reasonable size with an OK shower within the bath.
Bed was a bit soft for my liking.
Buffet breakfast was quite extensive but filter coffee was revolting and machine only provided half cups of cappuccino. Some of the bread rolls were quite dry and plenty of meats, cheese and boiled eggs available.
Reception helpful with maps for nearby restaurants and how to get into Venice. Sold one and two day transport passes but these had to be paid in cash.
Overall a pleasant stay.

Room tip: Avoid 9:00 for breakfast as it gets very busy

A small, older hotel in Mestre. Means of accessing Venice without Venice hotel prices.

But you'll sacrifice on space and other amenities that might be important to some.

The room was very tiny as was the bathroom but it did have a nice size balcony (with end of day sun).

If you're not fussy and just 1-2 nights is on the agenda, it's do-able. But there are similar budget options in Mestre that are closer to the train into Venice and are a bit newer.

Just home from a four night stay at Hotel Venezia with my partner. We had a great stay. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were great with directions on how to get to Venice and provided us with maps.

Rooms - not huge but not too small either, just the right amount of space. There is air con for warm and cool air. Beds are comfy enough and the pillows were lush. There are spare blankets for the bed if needed. We had a shower over a small bath, there are toiletries and a hairdryer. I’d take your own hairdryer if you have long or thick hair, mine took a while to dry! Rooms and bathrooms are basic but clean and we had everything we needed. Cleaners came in daily, made the bed and replaced all the towels. Walls are thin, if you’re a light sleeper you might want ear plugs. Didn’t stop us sleeping and it’s not exactly in a lively, loud area.

Breakfast - there’s a coffee machine, juice and a variety of tea bags. Fruit, yoghurt, cereals, milk, bread for toast, rolls, cheeses and hams, hard boiled eggs, a variety of different croissants and pastries. There’s plenty there and it was all really nice.

Location - about 20 mins from the airport on a bus for €10. About 15/20 mins from Venice via the tram (you can also get a bus). We got return tickets daily from reception for €3. There are also multi day options that cover unlimited travel and also include the water bus but we enjoyed walking everywhere in Venice. The bus and tram stops are a few minutes walk from the hotel. There are some restaurants and bars around the hotel - we had a nice meal at the Garden Grill but our favourite meal in Mestre was at Fratelli La Bufala. There’s a nice bar called Napa that has a lovely courtyard with patio heaters. All a couple minutes walk from the hotel.

It’s not the Ritz, but you get what you pay for. Hotel Venezia was the perfect base for us to explore Venice, good value and would recommend.
