Excellent hotel
We chose this hotel as we wanted a pool. It was a fantastic hotel.
Location/transport
It is on the mainland, rather than Venice itself, but it has a bus stop directly outside the hotel, which takes you straight into Venice for something really cheap like 1.50euros. You can also buy tickets and travel cards in the hotel reception, we ended up buying a 3 day travel card which gives you access to all the buses as well as boat buses in the city. It is 10 mins into Venice and 10 mins to the airport. You could get the airport shuttle to the hotel, stop at Orlanda Appia bus stop. This is included in the travel card prices. Ticket machines are at the airport too and any bus stops in the city.
Pool
Lovely big pool and plenty of sun beds. Could hire towels if needed.
Room
Very spacious and modern, drinks fridge, air conditioning, big beds and comfortable bed linen. Ice machines by the lifts on each level.
Attractions
St Mark's square, get tickets for the tower in the square (although queues to come back down in summer season!!) you access this via a lift. Get tickets for the basilica (wear appropriate clothing e.g. covered shoulders, knee length shorts etc) and then the museum/dome balcony of the basilica. Gondola trip, these are all the same price of 90euros for 30mins, 110 euros in the evening for 35mins. Lovely to do. These are all over the city along the canal, we chose to do the smaller canal areas near St Mark's square. Get the boat bus over to Murano island and watch the glass demo, also to Burano island to see the colourful houses. I wouldn't bother with palace tickets as these were more like 30euros per person and you only really get to see the prisons via Bridge of Sighs. Don't eat in St Mark's square unless you want to pay crazy prices. Everywhere else is very reasonable to eat/drink. Would recommend a meal at Hotel Continental which is an easy walk from the main bus stop in Venice, it is one of the first few restaurants on the canal.
