What a little gem of a find this place is. The wine and food was fantastic, as we expected from Italy but what really surpassed our expectations for Malcesine was the service. From the moment we walked through the cobbled tunnel, seduced by tunes from the live guitarist, we were greeted with a big smile. Quickly they hurried to assemble us a table and sat us down furnishing our glasses with delicious valpolicello wine and satisfying my impatient hunger with a bread basket and some local fruity olive oil. We ordered our first course which was a tagliatelle to share and it was presented beautifully on two plates. Second course was a juicy T-bone steak, cooked to perfection and a smoked duck lasagne; subtle yet decadent and not like one we'd had before. Portion sizes were generous and so we didn't have room for dessert but the waiters wouldn't let us leave without a limoncello on the house. Emilio, Sandro and the other waiters were wonderfully attentive, despite it being 9pm nearing the end of a long season for them; they greeted every customer with enthusiasm, in English, Italian and German and with warm hearts, we felt like the first customers to walk through their door on opening night. Quite an achievement considering they do this night after night. Go, you will not be disappointed. Diolch Casa Italia for a wonderful last night in Malcesine, Bruno and Lia xx
