We travelled out to Italy in our car and used the villa as a base in central Italy. We visited the seaside at Pescara, the ski hotel at the observatory in the Grand Sasso mountains, and the local towns. It was my ambition to cycle around the lake close to the villa. This was harder than expected due to the height, nearly 1,000 metres, but in a break of the bad weather managed a circuit of 20 km. The villa is a lovely spacious building in the village of a modern design with all the features of Italian style, marble and tile floors, shutters, and a room to keep my bicycle secure. There is a lockable gate to keep the property secure. We enjoyed the complete change of scenery from our normal holiday, although we put 3,500 miles on the car. We visited Florence, Chamoix, and Dunkirk on our return. Will be happy to return to the villa for an extended tour of the south of Italy to take in Monte Cassino and Sicily, although probably on fly-drive.
