Ten years after a terrible earthquake, L’Aqulia is still struggling to rebuild itself. Many famous restaurants are not open, and it can be a struggle to find somewhere open and good.

This restaurant on the edge of town will take a bit of effort to find on foot (easy by car or taxi), but is well worth the effort. Friendly staff, a limited but excellent menu and a lovely patio and garden. Go and relax and enjoy!

The restaurant is in an old building, very historic. Menu was sufficient. We had lunch. Tried 3 starters and 3 pastas dish. The lamb was good for lamb lovers, soft, juicy and smell like lamb. The carbonara was in a ravioli form. The source was inside. Added some bits of deep fried bacon. It was fantastic. The steak in blueberry source was very charming. Nice idea. Slow cook pork was ok. A bit chewy. Location is right next to a scenic spot. About 3 cars can park outside the restaurant or park near the train station and walk. I used google translate to read the menu as menu only in Italian.

If you are in L'Aquila and have a chance to go our for dinner, without a doubt, be sure to visit Re Gatto. While the restaurant itself is somewhat modest (I'd say quaint), the food is outstanding and the wine list is terrific. We had a business group dinner there and my wife and I won't forget it anytime soon. We had a lot of fun and laughs over 3-1/2 hours and our service was exceptional. I'm not even sure where to start with the food, other than to say that everything I tasted was fantastic. So go!!

Located just outside the center of the old city next to the 99 fountain Re Gatto is a charming restaurant. The food is plenty and top class. The service and dedicated people are very nice. The wines is another chapter. There are a wide selection of very good wines and a dedicated staff to tell you about the history of the wines.
Do NOT miss this restaurant if you are in the vicinity of L'Aquila

I was taken with a group of local persons the first evening we came to L'Aquila and had an enjoyable long diner comprising of many dishes typical of this region. The following evening I returned with my wife - excellent service and delicious food beautifully presented. The Cataldi Madonna red Montepulciano is inexpensive and was enjoyed both evenings. The 'golden' desert spoons are something to remember, as was the charm of the waitress. Be sure to visit the neighboring "Cannelli fountain of 99 spouts" before of after your dinner!
