Having ducked under two tiny doors, no more than five and a half feet high, we were seated at an old wooden ironing board which hinged down from the wall. Behind us was an icon of an obscure Saint's miracles and in front a crucifix. This was going to be no ordinary meal. It wasn't. What made it really extraordinary wasn't the quirky decor but the utterly fabulous food.
Everything we ate, over two meals within a week, was exceptional. There was a very strong link to local produce and South Tyrolean/ Ladino cuisine which meant that there were some combinations which were not quite familiar. But they worked very well. Notable dishes were the organic egg and peas and a brilliant dish of turbot, black pudding and foie gras - in fact everything I want on a plate.
It was cooking of a very high standard. Service both friendly and efficient. We will definitely go back.
