We stopped at Nuccia factory with a small tour group. It’s located in an industrial section of Assisi. Alex, our tour guide, was funny and relaxed with fabulous English and a kind spirit. The clay used is reported to be locally sourced without toxic lead, and the artistry is gorgeous. We got a couple of terra-cotta pieces for our garden.
In addition to the hand painted ceramics on display as they were being painted and for sale, they had nice mushroom truffle, liquor, pastas and chocolate for sale. Staff were particularly friendly, even to the young children among us. One employee gave the children a small token, saying, “we all would benefit from loving each other more”—it warmed my heart.
After the tour, we were fortunate to have a beautiful lunch at La Bella Station, which uses Nuccia’s ceramics in the restaurant.
Just a lovely experience in peaceful Assisi.
